With Batman getting a major update for a new generation in a blocky, brooding way for The LEGO Batman Movie on Feb. 10, it was only natural that the character’s hardcore upgrade would be accompanied by an equally metal (well, plastic) new theme song. Fresh off the brand-new soundtrack out now, take a listen to Batman’s new theme, “Who’s The Bat(Man),” written and sung by — surprise! — Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump, whose voice pulls off a shockingly convincing dark knight, played in the film by Will Arnett. The action-heavy tune kicks off both the movie and the track list, which also includes new songs from DNCE, Alex Aiono, Kirsten Arian, and Oh, Hush. But while “Who’s The (Bat)Man” seems to be a strong contender for the film’s album break-out, there’s also a strong possibility that Oh, Hush’s end-credits song “Friends Are Family” may spell the infectious downfall of the family van speaker system. No one can forget the sheer play count of The LEGO Movie‘s “Everything Is Awesome,” after all, and the happy post-film tune seems to be the heir apparent.

Get ready to hear it everywhere. Listen to that earworm here: The soundtrack from the film, featuring a score by Grammy winner Lorne Balfe, is out now from WaterTower Music, a week ahead of the film’s release (where it’s expected to break the box office, if that tiny indie The LEGO Movie was any indication).is one of the many  featured in . It is based on the popular 2014 animated film directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Emmet, an ordinary LEGO figurine who always follows the rules, is mistakenly identified as the Special -- an extraordinary being and the key to saving the world. He finds himself drafted into a fellowship of strangers who are on a mission to stop an evil tyrant's plans to conquer the world. Unfortunately for Emmet, he is hopelessly -- and hilariously -- unprepared for such a task, but he'll give it his all nonetheless.“Who can chokehold a bear?”Those lines are shouted in a song introducing the brooding, blocky Caped Crusader in the opening of “The Lego Batman Movie.”

The scene has Batman (voiced by Will Arnett) is fighting a gaggle of bad guys before squaring off with the Joker (voiced by Zach Galifianakis). In an interview, the director Chris McKay discussed how the song came to be and why he decided to begin the movie with a climactic action sequence. Below are excerpts from that conversation.Would you discuss this song that Batman is singing?Batman, in the first movie, has a song, “Darkness, No Parents.” We loved the idea that Batman fancied himself to be a Marilyn Manson/Trent Reznor type, somewhere between industrial and rap. He saw himself as this warrior poet and writes these earnest, dark-feeling songs. In the original edit, the song was “Bodies,” by Drowning Pool. But the studio didn’t think that was going to play for a kid’s movie. So we brought in a bunch of guys to write stuff and the song we loved the most was from a songwriter named Cheap Shot, who wrote this really funny, but also really cool song. The scene starts the movie off with a bang.

What were your goals for it?I wanted the beginning of our movie to feel like the third act of someone else’s movie. This is the third act of a Zack Snyder or Christopher Nolan Batman movie where there’s this threat that the city can’t do anything about and it’s the biggest thing Batman’s ever faced. I wanted the beginning of the movie to tell you about the world, to tell you about what other Batman movies would have done. I wanted to set this up for what you see after this scene, when Batman goes home and you see that he leads a lonely life.Could you talk about the Joker in this scene?Joker is the villain we love watching Batman fight. Batman and Joker have the central relationship of the Batman movies and comic books. I love this idea that Joker feels like this little brother who wants to show up his older brother but can never quite beat him. Joker sees himself as the bad guy version of Batman, but here Batman pulls the rug out from under him and doesn’t see it that way at all.

We wanted Joker to be so vulnerable and look at them as having some kind of relationship. To have Batman deny that relationship like a bad boyfriend seemed like a lot of fun. When Oscar nominations for this year's Best Animation Feature were announced on Thursday, the film about the beloved toys was nowhere to be found. That's ridiculous," tweeted Steven Zeitchik, Entertainment Writer for the Los Angeles Times. He's got a point. "The Lego Movie," while being a goofy animated movie (and some would say advertisement) about legos, was one of the year's biggest box office hits. It also won over a lot of movie goers and critics. The film grossed $257 million and holds a 96% fresh rating on movie review site Rotten Tomatoes. Not only does the film have a bigger box office total than the whole Best Picture nominee slate combined, it has a higher review score than last year's Best Animated Feature winner, "Frozen." The films that were nominated over "Lego Movie" were "Big Hero 6," "The Boxtrolls," "How to Train Your Dragon 2," "Song of the Sea," and "The Tale of The Princess Kaguya."

The semi-outrage on social media was almost immediate. "I do think some of the Academy voters have Legos for brains in that the Lego Movie wasn't nominated for Best Animated Film," tweeted "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn. Yet, the creators of the film took the snub in stride. "This is not a tragedy," one of the film's directors, Philip Lord, wrote on Twitter. "Congrats to incredible crew and cast of The Lego Movie, who made a classic." Lord also tweeted out a photo of a Lego Oscar statue saying, "It's okay. The movie did not go without any nominations, however. The film's original song, "Everything is Awesome," earned a nod for Best Song. The Oscars will be shown on ABC on February 22.
