You know the drill by now: everything is awesome because we have some LEGO movie news! Following the massive success of The LEGO Movie, Warner Bros. has been developing a slew of follow-ups in their quickly growing franchise, including a sequel and a handful of spinoffs. But when will we see the next installments in this new franchise? WB has just revealed some release dates to brighten your day. THR reports that WB has set release dates for The LEGO Movie Sequel, as well as spinoff films The LEGO Batman Movie and Ninjago. First up, the still-officially-untitled LEGO Batman Movie will swoop into theaters on February 10, 2017, complete with plenty of darkness and lacking the appropriate amount of parents. Will Arnett will reprise his role as the gravelly voice of Batman, while other details about the project are currently unknown. Seven months later, on September 22, Ninjago will arrive in theaters — the spinoff is based on the ninja-centric LEGO line, the Ninjago movie will be directed by Charlie Bean, who has previously worked on Cartoon Network favorites Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack.

And finally, the official LEGO Movie Sequel will hit theaters on May 18, 2018, moving up a week from its originally planned release. Rob Schrab, whose directing credits include episodes of Children’s Hospital and Community, will helm the sequel from a screenplay by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Michelle Morgan and Jared Stern. The LEGO Movie spinoff involving Jason Segel does not yet have a release date.Pick My Home Store Get access to great in-store deals and local pick-up Sign up for our email deals newsletter! Animation's The LEGO Movie sequel. Rob Schrab was previously attached to direct the movie, but he ended up dropping out of the project due to "creative differences."I'm not sure what to think about Mitchell directing this sequel because I hated Trolls so much. My kids wanted to see it, and it was like torture. He's also the director behind films such as Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, Sky High, Shrek Forever After, and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. So, I can't say I'm thrilled that he's coming on board to direct The LEGO Movie. With the original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller being the producers of the sequel and having written an early draft of the script, hopefully that's enough to carry the film into awesome status.

Lord and Miller are just way too busy to direct it themselves. They just started directing the Han Solo film! What do you all think of Mitchell being the director of The LEGO Movie sequel? Do you think a guy with his film resume will be able to live up to the standard of hilariously fun comedy set by Lord and Miller?  Newest Posts on GeekTyrantIt’s really happening guys (Picture: Warner Bros) Those chomping at the bit for an update on The Lego Movie 2, ready yourselves. Distributors Warner Brothers have confirmed that the hotly anticipated sequel will be released May 18, 2018 – a week earlier than originally planned. Yeah, that’s still a bit of a way off, but simmer down because in the mean time, there will be not one, but two spinoffs to keep you glued to your cinema seat. They come in the form of The Lego Batman Movie, which is slated for February 10, 2017 and Ninjago, which will follow on September 22, 2017. Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution at Warners, said: ‘We are very excited about dating our upcoming Lego animated features, which already have a worldwide fan following, built on the foundation of the first film.’

Adding: ‘These three films already in the pipeline are just the beginning of a creative and diverse animation slate that will be delighting audiences for years to come.’ Bring it on (Picture: Warner Bros) Now, let’s all sing together… MORE: Lego remake of new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer will make you smile MORE: Classic sitcom The Golden Girls gets a remake – in Lego MORE: Games Inbox: Star Wars: Battlefront graphics, Mortal Kombat X violence, and Lego PortalNow that the Super Bowl is out of the way, the coming weekend is shaping up to be the busiest so far of 2017 with three new wide releases offering something for everyone. Following our analysis, you can view the final forecast in the table below. The LEGO Batman Movie is widely expected to launch in first place as it comes in benefiting from the considerable goodwill of 2014’s The LEGO Movie, an out-of-the-gate smash hit that opened to $69 million on the same February weekend and legged all the way out to nearly $258 million domestically.

Now, LEGO Batman is again the recipient of excellent reviews — currently standing at a stellar 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes — with the added advantage of the Batman character taking the lead. As such, this entry in the newly minted animation franchise should appeal strongly to superhero fans as well as families of all ages (especially as the first major animated release since December’s Sing). Tracking for LEGO Batman has consistently been pulling ahead of LEGO Movie at comparable points, indicating this could behave like a sequel in terms of expanding its opening weekend impact. Warner Bros. is currently projecting an opening close to $60 million, but the usual tracking metrics are pointing closer to an opening in the range of $70-80 million. Meanwhile, Fifty Shades Darker is primed to attract fans of the book series and the first adapted film. Still, there’s a strong chance many target viewers will hold out for Valentine’s Day on Tuesday. Coupled with the fact that this sequel won’t have the same aura of curiosity that drew non-fans and casual viewers to Fifty Shades of Grey two years ago (and the lack of a holiday inflating its actual weekend), we’re expecting a noticeable drop from that film’s $85.2 million three-day opening to somewhere in the range of $45-55 million.

Universal is expecting a more conservative launch below $40 million. Last but not least, John Wick: Chapter 2 is aiming to take advantage of its predecessor’s modern cult classic success, a goal that should be helped by the fact that critics have given the follow-up an incredible 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes as of this publishing. That’s a rare score for any film in this genre, let alone a sequel. This entry should handily surpass the $14.4 million opening of the first film in October 2014, while tracking is on par with or exceeding that of The Accountant and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Industry sources point to an opening in the mid-to-high teen millions (which would still be enough to declare it a success), but we’re more optimistic in the potential to counter-program strongly with the male audience. Our range is pegged between $25-30 million. Our final forecasts for these openers and key holdovers are below. Domestic Total through Sunday, February 12 John Wick: Chapter 2
