Full Cast and CrewLatest update: The LEGO Movie Sequel delayed. The LEGO Movie was an unexpected smash hit. It raked in over $450 million worldwide from a production budget of just $60 million, nabbed an Oscar nomination for Best Song (although the Academy did somehow neglect to give it the nod in the Animation category) and inspired enough enthusiasm from Warner Bros. that the studio promptly green-lit four more LEGO-themed cinematic releases. Here’s when you can expect those four LEGO movies in the UK… You don’t need us to tell you that Will Arnett’s Batman was the standout character from The LEGO Movie. From his catchy song lyrics like “Darkness! No parents!” to his undeniable skills with a Batarang, this Batman Minifig was far more than the hero we deserved. Arnett will lend his voice to the character once more in this spin-off movie. He’ll be joined by a stellar supporting cast consisting of Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Zach Galifianakis as The Joker and Michael Cera as Robin.

Mariah Carey will also appear, as the Mayor of Gotham. This one’s not too far off, so hopefully we’ll have a trailer to share with you soon. Robot Chicken regular Chris McKay is directing from a script by Dark Shadows and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter scribe Seth Grahame-Smith. When we get the exact UK date, we’ll be sure to update this article. If you’re unfamiliar, Ninjago is a line of Ninja-themed products that LEGO has been producing since 2011. Martial artist Minifigs are pitted against dragons, ghosts and an array of other evil opponents (including evil ninjas, of course). So far, the cast hasn’t been announced for the Ninjago movie, but we know that Charlie Bean – who’s directed the Tron: Uprising animated series and worked in the art department on several animated giants – is set to call the shots.

It was meant to be a four year gap, but this brick-based sequel recently got pushed back. Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s schedules are too jam packed with Star Wars, superheroes and TV projects to allow them to direct The LEGO Movie Sequel (that job will go to Rob Schrab, who has previously helmed episodes of Community and The Mindy Project), but they are writing the script. We’d expect Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett and many more voices from the first LEGO Movie to return, potentially to be joined by some scary Duplo toys from Finn’s sister’s collection. The UK date isn’t announced yet, but this one will land in US cinemas on 8th February 2019. Further reading: Doctor Who may feature in The LEGO Movie 2

And finally, the latest addition to Warner Bros.’ cinematic LEGO slate is The Billion Brick Race. We don’t know the plot of this one, but we do know that it’s intended for a 24th May 2019 release (we’ll add the UK date when it’s announced). That date could change, though, now that The LEGO Movie Sequel has been pushed back. Jason Segel (who proved his possibly-relevant puppeteering skills during Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and has voiced an animated character before in Despicable Me) and Drew Pearce (who did great writing work on Iron Man 3, and directed the tie-in short All Hail The King) are attached to co-direct and write The Billion Brick Race. Will it be a race in a driving sense, or a race to build something? We don’t know, but we have heard that the pitch from Pearce was apparently enough to ‘excite’ Warner Bros. We’ll update this article as further information about these films – and any other LEGO-themed movies that Warner Bros. put into production – comes to light.

TO VIEW THE SITE PLEASE ROTATE YOUR DEVICEAs if the wait wasn’t already painful enough, Warner Bros. has given The LEGO Movie 2 another significant delay, pushing the animated sequel back from May 18, 2018 to February 8, 2019. Here on the internet, I believe we call that savage. To put the wait into perspective, go get pregnant on the previously slated release date and then you can watch the movie with your baby when it actually comes out (nevermind, don’t do that, nobody likes newborns in a theater). For the sequel, The LEGO Movie writer/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller remain on board as screenwriters alongside Michelle Morgan and Jared Stern with Rob Schrab, whose writing and directing credits include episodes of the excellent TV comedies Community,The Mindy Project, and Children’s Hospital, stepping in to direct. With Lord and Miller being two of the most in-demand filmmakers on the market, LEGO co-director Chris McKay was initially slated to helm, but jumped aboard The LEGO Batman Movie when the team decided to move forward on that movie first.

Little is known about the story at this point — not surprising since the movie doesn’t come ot for two and a half freaking years — but Lord and Miller previously teased a four year time jump in the narrative and an increase in female characters. The duo also teased in interest in seeing how those four years affected the boy inside the real-world story and how his perspective changes as he moves into adolescence. Elsewhere, Warner Bros. also shuffled up the release dates for a number of other films, pushing up Ben Affleck‘s Live By Night, pushing it up from October 2017 up to Jan. 13, 2017, bumping back Dean Devlin‘s Gerard Butler-led sci-fi Geostorm to Oct. 20, 2017, to be released in 3D and Imax, and shifting the Owen Wilson and Ed Helms led Bastards from November 2016 to Jan. 27The Lego Batman Movie Blu-ray release date and available on Digital HD from Amazon Video and iTunes is .Warner Bros. has unveiled its master plan for its upcoming Lego movies, staking out release dates for the next three movies in the franchise.

The Lego Batman Movie, which, at this stage, is untitled, will be the first new Lego movie out of the gate and will open Feb. 10, 2017. The date hews closely to the Feb. 7, 2014, opening of The Lego Movie, the surprise hit that has kicked off a whole new franchise for the studio. Also in 2017, on Sept. 22, Ninjago will hit theaters. The date represents a shift for the movie, which originally was eyeing a release in fall 2016. Finally, The Lego Movie Sequel — yes, that is the title — will open May 18, 2018. The new date pushes up the movie by a week. “These three films already in the pipeline are just the beginning of a creative and diverse animation slate that will be delighting audiences for years to come,” said Dan Fellman, the studio’s domestic distribution president. At this stage, the only competition for the Feb. 10, 2017, date is Fox’s romantic drama The Mountain Between Us, which is set to star Charlie Hunnam and Rosamund Pike. The other two dates are in the clear so far.
