Thousands of colourful bricks, hours of concentration and a lot of creativity have seen Chester transformed into a LEGO city. Over the past five years an anonymous resident has painstakingly recreated some of the most well-known landmarks in the city, complete with a miniature Lord Mayor and CWaC leader. Now as families across the country attend the first cinema screens of the Lego Movie tonight (Friday, February 14), one of the men behind S**tChester has shared his obsession with the colourful bricks. The anonymous resident, who runs the controversial twitter account, spent weeks on his newest creation, a LEGO version of Bridge Street – complete with the historic Rows.   And to make it even more realistic he added Jaka style graffiti and ‘to let’ signs to the street, teeming with miniature Roman soldiers, shoppers, and bizarrely Daleks. “It was just a single building at first, I was going to enter it into a competition last year and thought I should make it bigger to make it more realistic,” said the anonymous social commentator speaking to the Chronicle today.

“It’s taken several weeks to build it after work.” The LEGO enthusiast fell back in love with his childhood toy five-years-ago when he got a small kit free in a national newspaper, and started forming the make-believe city, which has a few recognisable landmarks which will make Cestrian’s smile. Now pictures of his brick-layered buildings are being proudly displayed in businesses across the city, and the tweeter says he is getting requests from cafes who want to be added to his project. “It is just a generic city, but it has got some parts of Chester in it,” he said, explaining he takes pictures of the landmarks and uses them to create his models in his 'LEGO room' at home. “The city has thousands and thousands of bricks, but the Rows is probably got about 500.” The next project on his list is the Eastgate Clock, which is proving to be quite tricky due to the detail and the bottom of the archway, he said. “It is very relaxing,” he explained. “You get a great sense of satisfaction, the Lord Mayor has even asked me if she can put it in the Town Hall.

This is not the first Chester LEGO creation.   The city's historic rows have been created at the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre in Manchester and little pink figures were added in June 2013 to coincide with the Race for Life in the city.
