There are 9 movies currrently playing at the 1 cinemas in AbbotsfordThe Lego Movie is out in theatres today, and yesterday I had the privilege of representing AbbyLUG on Breakfast TV in Vancouver to talk about the Lego Movie and the joys of being an Adult Fan of Lego! I was in the distinguished company of Lego Certified Professional Robin Sather and Paul Hetherington, AKA The Brick Baron. We had a great time showcasing our creations! Make sure to get out and see the Lego Movie – there is plenty for Lego enthusiasts of all stripes to enjoy, particularly all the shout outs to the AFOL community. Watch for us on Breakfast Television on February 6th. To find out why we are there you will have to tune in! We are getting back into things after the Holiday at AbbyLUG. We are looking to be at more events this year and hope you will see us around more. T




his is going to be an exciting year for us. as events become known we will be sure to post them. S The Chilliwack Train Show held October 19th and 20th was a great success. We had fun collaborating with the Vancouver LEGO Club on a large train display. Over 1500 people came by to see all the displays at the show. And to top it off, we were voted “best display” by the spectators! Can’t wait to go back again next year! Preparations are well underway for the Chilliwack Train & Hobby Show coming mid October. About seven of our members have really come together to collaborate on the main portion of our build, the city center. For many of us this is our first time building the fancy looking facades that LEGO has made popular through their Modular Building line and it is a challenge, but one that we are up to. We have many types of buildings and shops not often seen at these sorts of events, from a sushi restaurant and a brewery, to a bridal store and ice cream parlour. Along the roads we already have a large stable of 6 wide classic cars, a plethora of trucks and other vehicles. B




eyond the confines of the city center we are planning a Renaissance fair on castle grounds, as well as a mine in the side of a mountain, an old west town over yonder, and even a haunted forest. Trains are the focus, though, and the layout covers a square at least 20′ by 20′, with a fantastic water feature and a massive switchyard. We will post pictures as we progress, as well as at the event, but to truly take in what we hope is a wonderful display you’ve got to be there in person! On August 28th the LEGO store in the Guildford Mall opened. It was great to see the displays we built in their cases for everyone to enjoy. It was an extremely busy day for store manager Rachel and her staff. They kept their cool and helped everyone with a smile. You should go and check it out for yourself. The official Grand Opening for the store will be on September 20th, 21st and 22nd. Come down and see a LEGO Master Builder at work! The next AbbyLUG meeting will be Friday, September 13th. I




ope to see you there! A fabulous weekend was enjoyed by all that participated in our club’s first public exhibition at the 32nd Annual Berry Festival, July 6 & 7 in Abbotsford. We were able to talk to lots of adults about AbbyLUG and our passion as AFOLs (Adult Fans of LEGO). If you were one of those adult fans who stopped by to check out our creations we hope to see you at one of our upcoming meetings. The LEGO tent had lots of traffic due to the giant DUPLO maze built by Christian on behalf of Brickville DesignWorks. Everyone loved helping to get that completed! Special thanks go to Christian, Ken, James, Jeremy, and Jonathan for lending your creations and sets for display. The kid’s wouldn’t have enjoyed their time at our build tables without the added help of members Adele and Adica. And all these great photos were contributed by honorary members Jacelyn and Victoria.
