Select to search all Patches Lego Batman Movie Review A movie review of the lego Batman movie The Lego Batman Movie ReviewFrom the same crew that brought you the visionary lego movie in 2014, comes a spinoff movie starring Batman (Will Arnett) and his sidekick Robin (Michael Cera) fighting villains and saving the day. The films follows our titular protagonist who's tying to fight crime, as well as this emptiness inside that comes from being a loner with no family. There are two things that make this movie work, for one thing the clever comedic writing is very creative. The level of satire in both the opening and closing of the film is very much akin to 2016's 'Deadpool' and the film maintains this level of silliness throughout the film.

It also makes a lot of pop cultural references to other famous Batman movies and other random nostalgic franchises which adds more to the comedy. While this movie is very cleverly done, I'm not sure if many kids in the audience would get half of these references. But that's not the point, the film makes it very clear that it's simply here for a fun family romp for about two hours. Will Arnett's Batman is playfully egotistical and full of himself but they actually make him a little complex too, there are a few quieter scenes where he's dealing with the loss of his parents, letting his loneliness sink in. Which leads to a clichéd moral for a family movie, which is teamwork and sticking together, Batman eventually realizes that family and being there for other people is what's most important, and what do ya know? Him realizing that teamwork is a must, ends up winning the day, I shouldn't be so flippant about the moral, because it's good message and the way this film portrays it, you almost forget that this is a tired storyline.

That to me is a sign of a great film, doing something that's been done before, but doing it so well that you forget how overused the clichéd premise is and you end up having fun with it. Lego Batman is a very entertaining family film that will please both the fans and average newcomers alike, it's not as serious as the 'Dark Knight' trilogy, but that's not what it's trying to be, nor should it. This film is just a visionary masterpiece and takes some time for character development outside of the general insanity that come from the action scenes.
