teens

At the end of 2016 me and some of my friends from Chisinau wanted to help teenagers from vulnerable families. We wanted to identify 5 teenagers who wanted to go through some professional training but had no financial resources to to so. Our solution would be to find the teens, to find courses for them and to find sponsors who would be able to a pay for the courses.

At the time we were enrolled in a program organized by UK embassy from Chisinau called "Vzlyot". We have applied with this idea for a micro grant of £1300 and won.

Since then, 5 teenagers were able to pass the training courses for 5 professions:

Artiom Danishevsky (17 yo) - Therapeutical massage training.

Aliara Lazareva (17 yo) - Accounting courses

Ana Maria Pirlea (16 yo) - Accounting courses

Renata Carp (16 yo) - Hairstylist

Mihai Ivascenco (17 yo) - Car locksmith

I am especially proud for the last participant, Mihai Ivascenco. He finished his professional courses in December, and he is already hired part time as a car locksmith assistant at the car repair shop where he had his practice period. He is from a poor family, he finished only 9 grades and doesn't want to continue his studies, therefore this opportunity was of great help for him. He will continue to work as a locksmith and will make a living. I can tell that he truly likes this job.

The challenge of this project was to identify teenagers that a) were serious about pursuing a career; b) had financial problems c) whose parents agreed to collaborate with us. In order to find them we had to contact non profit organizations that helped with teens ("La Via Moldova", "The beginning of life"). When interviewing potential beneficiaries, we had some parents who did not want to collaborate with us or teenagers that changed their mind after we agreed to collaborate. It was quite challenging to find these 5 teens that have actually completed the courses and received the diplomas at the end of the program.
