The seven 18-year-olds, all from Clark, face multiple charges of drug and alcohol possession, said Cpl. Steven Shadiack, a spokesman for the Seaside Park Police Department. The owner of the home on Farragut Avenue, where the party was held, may also be charged, Shadiack said. Police were called to the home, which was a rental, at about 8:20 p.m. after a neighbor complained about the noise.
Shadiack said officers found several teenagers in front of the house and about 70 other revelers in the backyard. Shadiack said nearly all of them were drinking either from plastic cups or beer cans. Police requested a search warrant after entering the home to speak with the leaseholder, Daniel Mooney, and noticing a strong odor of marijuana, Shadiack said. “There was alcohol strewn all about the living room and kitchen areas and there was what appeared to be the remnants of marijuana,” Shadiack said. “When asked if there was marijuana in the residence (Mooney) was like ‘probably.’” Mooney told officers that it was his party to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend and to "restore the shore," Shadiack said. While in the home officers also found three locked fireproof boxes, he added. After obtaining the search warrant, Shadiack said, investigators discovered the boxes contained $200 in cash, at least 50 grams of marijuana packaged to be sold and an undisclosed amount of what authorities believe was powdered ecstasy.
In addition to Mooney, Gregory R. Smith, Richard C. Stockl, Lance L. Pecina, Anthony J. Tarantino, Thomas H. Mercurio and Edward R. Eaton were all arrested. They were all charged with possession of ecstasy, possession of over 50 grams of marijuana, possession of marijuana and ecstasy with the intent to distribute and possession of alcohol under the legal age. Because Mooney identified himself as the primary leaseholder, he was also charged with possession of alcohol with the intent to serve minors. Shadiack said all seven were processed and then released pending their court appearances. The remaining party-goers were allowed to leave, he added. “We made sure everybody was either in walking distance or given a ride back to where they belonged,” Shadiack said.
