Shrewsbury Youth Theatre (SYT) was established in 1993 to provide a professionally staffed youth theatre company for Shrewsbury. It now works with students from across Shropshire. There is a management committee of senior student members who are elected on an annual basis which deal with all the important decisions which will affect the future of SYT. SYT provides theatre activities for children and young adults aged 5 to 20 years. These range from basic training in theatre skills, through street theatre and devising projects, to large scale performances staged at Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn and workshops performances touring Shropshire schools and Arts Centres

SYT breaks down into three groups: Primary (ages 5–9, starting at 10.30 am and ending at 12 noon) every Saturday. Juniors (aged 10–14, starting at 10 am and ending at 12 noon) each Saturday. Seniors (aged 14–25, starting at 7 pm, ending at 9:30 pm) held each Thursday night. All of these are held at the Hive Shrewsbury. To run for the committee, one must be a Senior member for one year, at the AGM (annual general meeting). Committee can hold any position for 2 years maximum. The chair has the casting vote/decision. The committee positions are: Chairman, Vice chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Artistic Director (Head employee of SYT Ltd), Media and Marketing, Junior rep. and two General Members. The committee meet every other Thursday before the senior SYT session, or more often if circumstances change; it is a private meeting so the public, employees and SYT members are not allowed be present in the meeting unless invited to by the committee.
