Michelle and David destination wedding took place in the beautiful Hacienda Siesta Alegre overlooking the mountains of El Yunque Rainforest. “We thought it would be genius to pick a beautiful venue in the most amazing island of the Caribbean.” Michelle’s wedding gown, the “Mimi” dress, was made by designer Robert Bullock. She was hunting for the perfect dress for about 3 months before she found it. However, when she initially saw it, it was well above her budget. She walked away from the gown thinking that it could never be hers. Then, 2 months later she received a phone call from the bridal shop owner who stated the dress was being discontinued and would sell it to her for 50 % the original price!!!! It was destined to be Michelle’s gown! “our cousin and uncle are talented trumpet players and they played our ceremony and cocktail hour music. It was such a honor to have our family share our wedding events so intimately as they did.” It was the summer of 2010 and we were both working at the VA hospital.

David was in his first year of general surgery residency and Michelle was an RN working the ICU. They had never seen each other until one day David received a phone call in the ICU. Michelle answered the phone and the caller was asking for a Dr. Straughan. She overhead paged his name and David, hearing his name called, shot straight out of his chair (with his white crisp lab coat, freshly combed hair) and yelled happily “that’s me.” We briefly made eye contact that day but rarely saw each other again until the following year. Michelle was working with a surgical service as a Nurse Practitioner and David was rotating for a month with Michelle’s surgical team. David quickly grew feelings for Michelle, but he was unsure how to tell her. He eventually got the courage to ask her out, but to his surprise, she said no. He continued to ask her out, and she eventually gave in. We went out for sushi, but Michelle made it a point to say that it wasn’t a “date.” The chemistry was apparent.

They then decided to spend New Year’s Eve together. It was a magical night, and it ended with their first kiss at midnight. It was evident that she had feelings for him as well. After their first kiss, many dates followed, filled with dancing and David serenading Michelle with his guitar. Michelle and David wanted a rustic vintage, warm and welcoming venue for their romantic destination wedding. “We used large rectangular tables at the reception decorated with different heights of vintage white vases filled with hydrangeas, garden roses and baby’s breath flowers that were scattered throughout the center of the table, on top of a burlap runner.” The wedding and groom cake and the dessert table was made by Michelle’s friend Carmen. “The food was catered by Chef Marisoll, who cooks the most delicious Puerto Rican food!!!” “Our surprise first dance was a hit! We enjoy dancing and had a very difficult time deciding on one song that could represent our relationship and love.

So we decided to do a “splice” first dance song that include 4 different songs blended (Dave Matthews, Bruno Mars, Ran Kan Kan and Jack Johnson). To incorporate Michelle’s Puerto Rican roots we even added a short salsa track. Prior to the Big Day we took dance classes in order to choreograph our dance so that it was a true reflection of us. It was so much fun…and a perfect way to get the party started.” Ceremony: Hacienda Siesta Alegre  |  Reception Venue: Hacienda Siesta Alegre  |  Photography: David & Marelly of Hidden Kiss Studio  |  Wedding Coordination: Yaska Crespo |  Decoration & Flowers: Lorraine’s Flowers  |  Cake Design: Carmen López  |  Make-up/Hair: Ingrid Rivera  |  Reception Music: Banda Sin Prisa    |   Ceremony Music: Jose & Pucho Ruiz   |   Gown Designer: Robert Bullock   |  Bridal Shop: Malindy Elene Couture   |   Catering: Chef Mariso|l   |   Wheelchairs and transport chairs enable those who are permanently or temporarily disabled to be more mobile, so that they can easily move around their homes and when out in public.

With wheelchairs, disabled individuals can gain greater independence in the home and go more places with minimal assistance. If you or someone you love is in need of a transport chair or wheelchair, Walgreens can help you to get the ideal model for your or their needs at a competitive price. There are two main types of rolling chairs that are used as mobility aids: transport chairs and wheelchairs. Both types feature supports for the feet, arm rests and four wheels, but they are designed to be operated differently. Transport chairs are for pushing an injured or disabled person. This type is ideal for individuals who are unable to move the wheelchair on their own and must rely on a caregiver for assistance. Wheelchairs can be operated by pushing the large back wheels on either side of the chair or by using a hand control in the case of a power or motorized chair. Many wheelchair models also have handles on the back, so that they can be pushed by a caregiver as well. Many different types of wheelchairs are available on the market to meet the needs of those who require a mobility aid.

Some wheelchairs fold or collapse for easy transport when on the go, and this type may be called a folding or travel wheelchair. You can purchase wheelchairs that have reclining seats and leg supports and bars for providing extra support for the body. Bariatric wheelchairs are designed for individuals who require an extra strong mobility device to accommodate their body weight. When you're comparing wheelchairs to purchase for yourself or for a loved one, there are many things that you'll need to consider beyond what type is right for your needs. The size and turning radius will affect how easy it is to maneuver the wheelchair to do activities like playing sports and to navigate certain settings like crowded stores. Smaller chairs are generally easier to steer, but they can be less stable. You'll also need to consider if the type of seat that the wheelchair has is adequate for supporting the body and is likely to protect the skin. The type of tires will determine which types of terrains the wheelchair will be able to safely travel.
