Surrounded by Buffalo’s Main Street, the Naval & Military Park, First Niagara Center and the Buffalo River, Canalside can be accessed through entrances off Scott Street/Marine Drive. Canalside is also accessible by the NFTA Metro Rail and Bus, “Erie Canal Harbor” stop. Visitors can also arrive via seasonal water bike ferry service. For GPS navigation, enter “Canalside Buffalo” or 44 Prime Street, Buffalo, NY 14202 as the destination address. Q. Where do I park? Check out our parking map. Most people think the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park and the The Erie Basin Marina are the only places to park at Canalside. Here is a tip: if you arrive via Washington Street or Michigan Avemue there is ample parking located in surface lots and ramps.
There are hundreds of parking spaces in Historic Cobblestone District, which is only short two short blocks away from Canalside! Specifically, check out the lots along Perry Street, as well as the First Niagara Center Parking Ramp and the HARBORCENTER Parking Ramp- all of which have handicap accessible parking. There is also on-street and metered parking available on many of the surrounding streets. In addition, the NFTA Metro Rail’s “Erie Canal Harbor” stop brings you right to Canalside’s front door! Q. When is Canalside open? Canalside is open to the public dawn-11 pm, 7 days a week. On occasion, certain sections of the site are closed off temporarily for standard site maintenance work and upkeep. Is there an admission fee to visit Canalside?In addition, visitors are encouraged to participate in our often free activities and events, sponsored by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation.

The Ice at Canalside presented by BlueCross BlueShield of WNY will be open mid November – mid March. Please note that mild weather conditions (generally, warmer temperatures combined with rain or melting snow) may cause the Ice to close on certain days, delay the season opening, or cause the season to end sooner than expected. Check out our calendar of events for more information, including open skate times and any weather-related closings. Open skate costs $6 for ages 13+, $4 for ages 6-12, and free for kids 5 and under. Skate rentals are available for $4 (sizes range from a toddler size 9 to an adult size 13). Limited locker rentals are available for $3. (BlueCross BlueShield of WNY members can present their member card for $1 off admission) Curling is available during open skate hours for $15/person for 1 hour. All equipment and an instructor will be provided.

Public restrooms are available next to Clinton’s Dish take-out restaurant (summertime only), at our Pavilion next to the Canals/Ice at Canalside, as well as inside the Naval & Military Park’s museum building next to Liberty Hound. Q. How do I arrange to dock at Canalside? Due to limited space, docking space is rented on a first come, first serve basis. Rafting of similar sized vessels is mandatory if no dock space is available. Q. Where can I eat? You have plenty of great options! Check out the full listing of restaurants around Canalside. Q. What types of activities are available at Canalside? Summertime: In addition to free scheduled events nearly every day from Memorial Day through Labor Day, Canalside offers plenty of everyday activities.
From kayaking and ping pong to having a delicious meal and watching the sunset- there is always something to do at Canalside, every day! Wintertime: Canalside offers open ice skating and curling 7 days a week through March (or until weather permits) on the Ice at Canalside presented by BlueCross BlueShield of WNY (check out our schedule for more info). Open skate is $6 for ages 13+, $4 for ages 6-12, and free for ages 5 and under. Skate rentals are available for $3. Ice Bike rentals are also available on weekends and holidays.
