Could you possibly rent a farm with a barn and make it exactly what you want with outside activities and the barn as a backup? My sister-in-law did this in Maine and it worked really well when it got colder when the sun went down. Think nice-barn, not old-cow-barn. It's more work (or money) to get catering to get there and arrange power and things like that, but you can make it into the exact thing you want instead of compromising. Also, they had a bounce-house, which I now consider mandatory for wedding events. There are a ton of bed and breakfasts there that also do weddings and/or receptions. There are also a few places on the Jersey side of the river in that area too. I attended two lovely wedding receptions at the Centre Bridge Inn, Bucks County Weddings at Centre Bridge Inn New Hope Pa. For one, there was a barge drawn by mules that had some appetizers (just cheese, crackers and fruit) on a table and gave rides up and down the canal. It's a beautiful, historic inn, and the large patio area is lovely.
