Which makes better office chairs: Steelcase or Herman Miller?Disclaimer: I work for a company that is a supplier to both companies. This may make me slightly biased, but it also makes me very familiar with both company’s product lines (literally from the inside).Lets start from a quality standpoint. Both companies make quality products built to stringent requirements and utilizing quality materials. I would not worry about either company from this standpoint. From a comfort standpoint. Office chairs are very personal items. What is more comfortable to you may be uncomfortable to someone else with a different body size or shape. You really have to sit in chairs yourself to find what is best for you. From an aesthetic standpoint. Again personal taste plays a big part in this. Herman Miller chairs tend to be a little more polarizing. Either people love them or they hate them (I am looking at you Sayl). Steelcase’s design sense is a little more middle of the road. I would give Herman Miller a half of a point more for making bolder choices but again this is personal taste.

My personal idea is that they are both excellent choices for your office, and they are among the cream of the crop.Better is a subjective term, though. I personally go with Herman Miller as to the kind of chair I would like to buy if I had that amount of cash ready - because I like more their aesthetics. But I am pretty sure that Steelcase products are as good as HM’s New (2) from $1,016.00 Ships from and sold by BACKSTORE. Steelcase Gesture Task Chair: Shell Back - Platinum Metallic Frame/Base/Seagull Accent - Standard Carpet Casters The first chair designed to support our interactions with today’s technologies. It was inspired by the movement of the human body and created for the way we work today. More now than ever, our business is conducted through smartphones, tablets, and laptops. The generational spread of the office is increasing too, with decades of professionals working together. With all this change happening around us, Steelcase set out to create a chair that reflects the way we work and live.

To address this new workplace landscape, Steelcase photographed 2000 people in 11 countries to study their posture. The culmination of these new finding resulted in the Gesture Chair, inspired by the everyday movement of the human body. Like the human body, Gesture is designed as a system of synchronized interfaces that together provide customized support for any posture. Features: • A new sitting experience designed with a back and seat that move as a synchronized system moving with each user to provide continuous and persistent support • Arms move like a human arm which allows users to be supported in any position • Seat has comfort all the way to the edge with a flexible perimeter to allow users to sit in a range of positions • Arms and shoulders remain supported regardless of device being used • Designed to be quickly adjustable and takes into account various body types and sitting preferences 24 x 35 x 45 inches 3.3 out of 5 stars #174,793 in Home and Garden (See top 100)
