The posh ones might have had catering facilities – aka a plug socket for the kettle. Now though those innocent times are long gone – as this hut on the Mudeford spit in Dorset proves.
The pimped-up beach house has a built-in kitchen and can sleep six: two on a half-mezzanine level and four on fold-out sofa beds – though guys, you need to know before you buy that there’s no running water or toilet. It has been listed by Denisons estate agent at an eye-watering £250,000 – despite the lack of WC. Daniel Cherry, from Denisons, said: ‘We sold one in the summer for £265,000, but that was one of the larger huts that sleeps up to eight. ‘The prices will go higher until people stop wanting to pay that much. ‘This hut is at the more enviable end of the spit, facing the sea and away from the general busy area that tourists tend to go to.’ Another issue for potential buyers though (beyond the lack of bathroom): the property can only be reached by a long walk, a short ferry journey or a ride on novelty land train.
Owners can only sleep in the huts between March and October, although they can visit any time of year, and there is a communal shower block for owners to use.
