It’s not the Nike MAG, but Nike has finally unveiled an auto-lacing sneaker that you will be able to buy this year. Introducing the HyperAdapt 1.0, the very first example of what Nike is calling their “adaptive lacing” system. As Nike Senior Innovator Tiffany Beers explains; “When you step in, your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten. Then there are two buttons on the side to tighten and loosen. You can adjust it until it’s perfect.” Initial design concepts as early as 2013 started with a snowboard boot that was fitted with a clunky external generator. Following the prototype, the challenge was then to embed the technical components in a smaller space that would not impede natural movement. Eventually, Beers, along with Tinker Hatfield, settled on an underfoot-lacing mechanism, and the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 was born. Check out our recap of the event below, including a live wear-test. The Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 will be exclusively to members of Nike+ beginning Holiday 2016, in three colorways. Known as the Nike PG 1, they are scheduled to release during Spring 2017. Nike Basketball will start introducing signature models under ‘Code Name’. Paul George’s signature model will also be known as ‘The Bait 1’. The first Nike PG 1 comes in an Obsidian, White and University Gold color combination which has an Olympic feel. Through the base is Obsidian which also lands on the mid-foot strap. Paul George’s number 3 is spotted on the tongue which is outlined in Red while the same shade hits the heel tab. The Nike PG 1 doesn’t have a set release date as of yet, however we were informed by our sources that they will debut during March 2017. Retail price will be $110. This should come to no surprise as Jordan Brand has released some soccer inspired releases in the past for those that can recall the “Brazil” Air Jordan 6, and who remembers that unreleased Air Jordan 6 “First Championship” colorway. Michael Jordan and Neymar Jr. share a mutual respect that transcends sports, countries, and languages. Neymar Jr. grew up a fan of the man and the brand, while Jordan appreciates Neymar Jr.’s style on and off the pitch. Now, as part of a unique Nike/Jordan collaboration, Neymar Jr. becomes the first football (soccer) athlete to feature the Jumpman on his performance product. Additionally, the Jordan Brand will release a Neymar edition of the Air Jordan 5 Low with “Neymar” stitched inside the tongue. The Neymar x Air Jordan 5 Low features a full 3M reflective Cement Print upper that includes Infrared accents, Black detailing, the number 10 and 23 on the left and right side as a nod to both Neymar’s and Jordan’s numbers, completed with Neymar’s Air Jordan logo on the insole and a translucent outsole.
The release will come housed in a special edition Neymar x Air Jordan box completely dress in Infrared with Black speckled detailing and both the Neymar and Jumpman logo on the side and top of the box.
