It’s From The Sole donates sneakers to Norristown homeless shelter Andre McDonnell, center, founder of It’s From The Sole, poses with students from Pine Forge Academy before distributing sneakers and socks to the residents of the Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center of Montgomery County in Norristown for Martin Luther King Day, Monday, Jan. 18, 2016. NORRISTOWN >> Residents at the Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center of Montgomery County (CHOC) are putting their best foot forward in new socks and sneakers donated by It’s From The Sole and distributed by the students and staff of Pine Forge Academy. It’s From The Sole (IFTS) is the brainchild of Brooklyn native and Pine Forge alumnus Andre McDonnell. After giving the sneakers off his feet to a homeless man with no shoes in 2012, McDonnell realized that there were countless others in similar situations, and was compelled to start the charitable nonprofit to distribute new and refurbished footwear to people in need.

Since then, IFTS has provided more than 7,500 pairs of sneakers to the homeless and less fortunate in and around New York and Philadelphia. “Today is called the Day of Service, and being that it’s Martin Luther King Day, instead of receiving, I decided me and the kids would come together and this could be a day of giving,” McDonnell said. “So we came to the Norristown shelter today to make sure that every single person in this shelter would be provided with a fresh pair of socks and also a pair of sneakers.” Approximately 23 children from the boarding school’s Kimbrough and Handy Halls broke into groups in a space behind the shelter’s day room to divide huge bags of sneakers and socks into men’s and women’s styles, and organize them by size. In all, IFTS furnished 100 pairs of sneakers and 145 pairs of socks to CHOC, more than enough for each of the shelter’s 62 current residents. Before distributing the shoes, McDonnell gathered the students to thank them for serving and reminded them of the enormous impact a small act of kindness can make.

“This is you guys really going out and helping the homeless,” McDonnell said. “You’re blessed to be here to give today, to give on Martin Luther King Day.” of 24resultsDidn't find what you were looking for?magnifying glassUrban OutfittersGreat Clothes!!I LOVE this store. The motto of Carl’s Shoes Inc., then as now, is “Where Shoes Are Fitted…

Today there are three generations proudly carrying on a tradition of superior customer care and service. “Many people do not realize that their foot changes over the years, so the shoe that fit when a person was 20 may not be the right size 10 or 15 years later,” Carl Barone says. According to Carl, 75 percent of his first time customers come in wearing the wrong size shoe. That’s why, at Carl’s Shoes, sales personnel measure every customer every time. A record of shoe sizes is retained in the store’s files. At Carl’s Shoes, you’ll find a wide variety of shoes from the world’s top manufacturers such as SAS, UGG, Allen Edmonds, Bostonian, Nike, New Balance, Stride Rite, Munro, Trotters, and scores more! And remember, Carl Barone stands behind the shoes you stand in. New technology has enabled footwear to be lighter, more flexible, and more shock absorbent, but the best looking and the best-made shoes will not be comfortable unless they are properly fitted.

It is estimated that people walk between 7,000 and 10,000 steps every day. In fact, studies show that three out of four Americans experience a serious foot problem at least once in their lifetime. “Many foot problems—in people of all ages—can be prevented, or alleviated, by properly fitted shoes,” explains Jeffrey Higman, an American Board Certified Pedorthist. “When your feet feel good, you feel good.” Growing children outgrow shoes quickly—sometimes more quickly than parents recognize. At Carl’s, parents can be assured that every child can get exactly the right shoes to accommodate their hyperactive lifestyles. That goes for seniors, too. Carl’s shoe experts are experienced at serving the special foot needs of seniors, as well as men and women of all ages. Carl’s Shoes stocks the very latest in affordable foot health products that include arch supports, orthotics, specialty footwear, and pads providing relief with the latest “gel” technology. The store’s diverse footcare line offers customers immediate comfort from almost every foot condition including heel pain, arch pain, ball-of-foot pain, bunions, hammertoes, diabetes, arthritis, and more.

Prescription & Custom Made Shoes For those of any age with serious foot problems, Carl Barone and grandson Jeffrey Higman are American Board Certified Pedorthists. Carl’s Shoes is accredited by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics. Carl Barone and his grandson, Jeffrey Higman, are Board Certified Pedorthists, as well as members of the Prescription Footwear Association. You are using a web browser we don't support.
