Das Quartier pulsiert fast 24 Stunden am Tag. Lediglich am frühen Morgen wird es ruhiger. Hier finden sich das bekannte KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center) mit Kuala Lumpurs Wahrzeichen den Zwillingstürmen als auch die angesagtesten Shoppingmalls und gehobene Hotels. Dies bedeutet aber nicht gleichermaßen, dass dies ein teurer Stadtteil ist. Im Bereich der Jalan Bukit Bintang gibt es ebenso Hotspots mit preiswerten Unterkünften und Straßen mit Garküchen. Wer kurze Wege mag, Zugriff auf andere Stadtteile mittels öffentlichem Nahverkehr, sowohl preiswertes als auch gehobenes Essen und auch eine Massage, ist in dieser Region bestens aufgehoben. Das Gebiet zieht sich vom KLCC und dem KL Tower entlang der Jalan Sultan Ismail über die Jalan P.Ramlee, die Jalan Raja Chulan und Jalan Bukit Bintak bis zur Jalan Imbi.
Die Jalan Bukit Bintang ist das Herz des Stadtteils. Hier gibt es unzählige 5-Sterne-Hotels und Einkaufszentren. Auch ein Großteil der Restaurant- und Partyszene der Stadt ist hier angesiedelt. Alle bieten die Klassiker wie Fuß- und Body-Massage (letztere liegt im Schnitt bei RM 60,00). Einige haben auch Becken mit Fischen, die einem die überflüssige Haut von den Beinen knabbern. Bei allen stehen die Angestellten mit ihren Schildern bereits auf dem Fußweg.
Kultur: Anders als in anderen südostasiatischen Metropolen entwickelt sich in Kuala Lumpur stetig eine Kunst- und Kulturszene. Besonders erwähnenswert ist die Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, welche sich zwischen den beiden Petronas Twin Towern befindet. Das Malasian Philharmonic Orchestra gehört zu den besten der Welt und wird seit September 2008 von dem deutschen Dirigenten Claus Peter Flohr geleitet. Konzertgänger sind an den üblichen Dresscode gebunden! Das Angebot an Einkaufsmöglichkeiten ist nahezu unerschöpflich. Neben den Läden an den geschäftigen Straßen wie der Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Sultan Ismail und Jalan Imbi gibt es eine Vielzahl großer Einkaufszentren. Im Suria KLCC - dem Einkaufszentrum am Fuße der Twin Towers CDs: CDs sind in Malaysia im Regelfall billiger als in Europa. Ein Besuch eine Musikladens lohnt daher immer. Feinkost: Im Lot-10-Einkaufszentrum (siehe oben) befindet sich im Keller eine Feinkostabteilung. Gerade, wer zur Abwechslung seinen morgendlichen Toast mit von zu Hause bekannten Wurst- und Käsewaren belegen will, sollte hier einmal vorbeischauen.
Bei Einheimischen sehr beliebt - die Jalan Alor Auch bei den Einheimischen sehr beliebt ist die Jalan Alor. Hier gibt es eine Reihe von Restaurants (chinesisch, thai und malaysisch) und Garküchen. Abends und bis spät in die Nacht ist diese Straße stark bevölkert, wer authentische Küche mag, kein Problem damit hat, fast auf der Straße zu sitzen und das ganze Gewusel beobachten will, ist hier richtig. Wer eine kleine kulinarische Weltreise machen möchte ist in diesem Stadtteil richtig. Viele internationale Küchen präsentieren die Jalan Ckt. Bukit Bintang, Jalan Bukit Bintang sowei der BB Park gegenüber dem Low Yat Plaza.Der Time Square bietet Abwechslung beim Shopping Bars und Clubs: Eine ganze Reihe von Bars und Restaurants mit Discothek und Livemusik zieht sich entlang der Jalan P. Ramlee zwischen dem KLCC und der Jalan Sultan Ismail. Als weiterer Hotspot hat sich die Changkat Bukit Bintang entwickelt. Viele Kinos befinden sich in den großen modernen Einkaufszentren der Stadt.

Sie befinden sich in einer Reihe alter eher flacher Gebäude aus der 30er Jahren. Erwähnenswert ist hier, dass die Hotels in der Regel recht neu, ordentlich und sauber sind. Allen gemein sind allerdings die besonders kleinen Zimmer, meistens ohne Fenster. Einen großen Koffer im Zimmer aufzuklappen, kann sich als schwierig erweisen. Zum Glück sind die Zimmer alle mit neuen Flatscreen-TVs ausgestattet. Trotz alledem bieten sie eine saubere, ruhige und preiswerte Unterkunft im Herzen der Stadt, in der Regel mit WiFi in allen Gängen. Kürzester Weg für Backpacker zu Fuß ist die Monorail-Station Imbi. Von dort südlich laufen und an der nächsten Kreuzung rechts. Der zweite Hotspot für preiswerte Unterkünfte liegt in der Tengkat Tong Shin. Zwei Straßen nordwestlich parallel zur Bukit Bintang.
