My first reaction when walking in was how funky the art pieces scattered around are, totally amazing. Friendly reception staff on check in and we stayed in a studio apartment which is spacious, large bathroom with great shows and a huge deep bath and definitely very comfortable beds. Small kitchen area with microwave, hot plates, small oven, Nespresso coffee machine, fridge and a washing machine/drier. The room is very well equiped for both short and long stays. The location is very central to wv rything, Te Papa museum is across the road, walking distance to so many restaurants and bars. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay there if I visit Wellington again. Room Tip: The apartments are at the rear of the hotel and rooms are great. 1,476 reviews sorted by: One block from the waterfront walk, one block from Courtney Place, across the road from the Te Papa museum and within easy walking distance of Cuba Street and Lambton Quay, the location cannot be beaten.

All customer facing staff are extremely helpful. However, the room was a little disappointing. A glass light shade on the over bed light was cracked and very loose, cupboard doors were loose and catching each other (a 2 minute screwdriver fix) and had been for some time, the bedside clock wasn't working and the toilet seat was loose. Tea, coffee, washing machine and dishwasher supplies were not topped up each day. Nothing major, but when all are added together it wasn't really good enough. We stayed in a studio apartment with cooking facilities including an oven. For eating in the room there was only chair and a stool to sit at the table. we checked in for a couple of days as a convenience as we live on the kapiti coast. the first impression was very favourable with the plush ambience and the recpetion staff was very warm and welcoming... the parking was a bit cramped and one should be warned of the rather steep parking fee. Once in the room was lovely and everything acceptable. The tv quality was below par as was the inability of the air cond to be turned down to a reasonable noise level.

I also found the lack of an active extraction system in an internal bathroon bemusing. Otherwise its location relative to restaurants and pubs etc to be excellent and it was well insulated for noise (but noisy aircond!) We had 2 nights here for the culmination of our North Island tour. Check in was OK, the young man who checked us in was in training, his inexperience was apparent - something we encountered on more than one occasion at the front desk. The concierge took our car keys and parked the car for us ($30/day).We had booked a Harbour View room and were given room 132 which had a view of some trees and a dumpster full of building rubble. The room had just been refurbished but had not been 'snagged' properly. The sliding wardrobe doors were stuck fast in the closed position. The newly tiled balcony was filthy with workmen's footprints in cement evident on the floor and the door frame just hadn't been cleaned at all.The following morning I went to the front desk and asked to move to a higher room.

Fortunately we encountered a senior member of staff who knew what she was doing and arranged it in a jiffy - we simply had to repack and she arranged for our cases to be moved to our new room. However when we reported the problems with our original room, she said, 'that's great, it's just been refurbished, we need the feedback'. Therein lies the problem - paying guests should NOT be the final step in quality control.Room 340 was much better with a view over the car park to the harbour - the balcony was clean and the wardrobe doors worked - however there was a chair missing! We were B&B and had breakfast in Hippopotamus restaurant where the food was OK but service was slow and communication with the French waiting staff difficult. In summary an OK stay but the refurbishment programme is deeply flawed - they should either have closed the hotel or at least closed it floor by floor to minimise inconvenience to guests.A decent stay, but marred by small details. The hotel is perfect. The rooms are good and all facilities are available.
