If the track is longer than 8 feet and is a pocket sliding glass door that goes all the way back ... My total track length is 12', so I had to cut an additional 4' and add that to the new track. If you file the ends square, they fit together with no bump. Use a liberal amount of silicone, as it will glue the track in place and also dampens the sound of the rollers. Have not tried it but leaning toward no to your question. Not sure why you would need such a heavy rail for a light screen door. You must have enough of the original rail to snap this cap over. If the original rail is worn so much it would not support a screen door you more than likely don't have enough original rail to attach to. I used this track cap over an original very worn aluminum rail for a double pain sliding door. I have a vinyl door also and noticed that this 1/4" stainless steel track cap comes installed over the vinyl rail on the door side but not on the screen door side. No need given that the screen door weighs less than 1.5 lbs.
