Three Parts:Disassembling the MattressPacking the MattressDisassembling the Adjustable / Modular BaseCommunity Q&A Disassembling your Sleep Number bed properly can help ensure all working components are safely detached and packed away so you can efficiently reassemble your bed later on. The Sleep Number disassembly process involves removing the mattress cover, hoses, and all internal components, and taking apart the bed’s adjustable or modular base. Ask a friend or family member to help you disassemble your Sleep Number bed. Verify your bed is lying in a flat position. Position yourself at the head of your bed and locate the mattress zipper between the pillow cover and base. Unzip the entire mattress cover completely. Position yourself on one side of the bed and locate the gray tab where the hose is attached to the bed’s air chamber. Push in the gray tab, then gently pull the hose out of the mattress cover through the opening in the cover. Go to the other side of the bed, and repeat steps #5 and #6 to remove the hose.

Remove all internal mattress components until you’ve reached the bottom of the mattress. This includes the air chambers, foam border walls, and corner locks. Take photos of the inside of your mattress throughout disassembly so you can refer to them later on for correct placement when reassembling your Sleep Number bed. Press the down arrow on your Sleep Number remote until the display reads “0.” Unplug the bed’s Firmness Control System from the power outlet in the wall. Place the Firmness Control System and its remote securely into a packing box and surround with packing material. This prevents the system from being exposed to excess shock and vibration, which could damage the Firmness Control System. Place the deflated Air Chambers into a box. Place the foam comfort pads and mattress cover into a double bag. This helps prevent the pads and mattress cover from becoming stained during transport. Skip to Part Three of this article if your mattress is attached to an adjustable base.

The mattress must be detached from the adjustable base before packing away into a double bag. Use a 7/16 inch socket to loosen the hex bolts holding the mattress cover bottom to the adjustable base. Skip to step #4 if your Sleep Number bed has a modular base. Set aside the bolts and remove all mattress retainers holding the mattress in place. Place all hardware components into a bag to prevent the parts from becoming lost during transport. This completes the disassembly process for your Sleep Number bed if using an adjustable base. Proceed with the remaining steps if disassembling a modular base. Slide all decking panels off the bed frame. Unscrew the wing nuts and detach the legs from the base of the bed frame. Slide out all pins from the side rails and support beams, and add to the bag of hardware components. Place all decking panels and support beams into a packing box. This will help prevent the components from accruing damage during transport.

The head and foot sections of the adjustable base are relatively heavy, and may bend when moving. Be extra cautious when moving an adjustable base, and ask a friend or family member for help when moving the frame.BED BASES AND FRAMES VIEW ALL BED BASES AND FRAMES Sleep Number® Bed Modular Base Sleep Number ® Bed Modular Base Reviews - page 2 Sleep Number® Bed Modular Base: Maximize Your Comfort and Support.
