Arapahoe Basin Ski Area – a Legend 70 years in the making Founded in 1946, Arapahoe Basin maintains its status in Colorado as “The Legend,” with 70 years of vibrant history.




Known for its long seasons, laidback vibe and pristine variety of terrain, the Basin moves forward with improvements to its infrastructure without sacrificing what has made it legendary over the decades. We’ll be celebrating our history throughout the season, highlighting what makes us legendary. It’s about the people. It’s about the feeling you get whenIt’s about the skiing. It is really about the skiing. Improving YOUR experience – Our goal at A-Basin is to consistently raise the bar for the guest experience while keeping the vibe of the ski area intact. In 2012, A-Basin released its Master Development Plan (MDP) in accordance with its land lease agreement with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS). The plan outlined proposed improvements to the ski area including a significant terrain expansion (approximately 340 acres), the installation of a surface lift to provide easier access to Montezuma Bowl and a challenge course and canopy tour for




The Forest Service released a Final Environmental Impact Statement and Draft Record of Decision in August 2016, and is expected to release a Final Record of Decision by the end of the calendar year. Expansion of lift-served skiing into The Beavers & Steep Gullies will be the first terrain expansion for A-Basin since it opened the 400-acre Montezuma Bowl *NEW for 2016-17* (improvements & updates) Arapahoe Basin Ski Area continues its emphasis on creating an unparalleled guest experience with improvements to its Base Area Plaza and Arapahoe Sports retail shop. For the third consecutive summer, Arapahoe Basin invested over $1 million on guest-facing improvements, constructing new facilities like the Kids Center and modernizing the Season Pass Office and the 6th Alley Bar & Grill. Arapahoe Sports – Over the summer, Arapahoe Basin doubled the square footage of its retail shop, allowing the ski area to add new vendors and give guests and employees alike much-needed space.




Mountain Hardware and Outdoor Research to its stable of industry brand leaders, including Patagonia, Oakley, SmithNew for the upcoming season, A-Basin partnered with Colorado-based ski company Icelantic Skis to create a custom ski for the A-Basin guest. Base area improvements – By the end of the summer, A-Basin will have completed the final phase of its Base Area Plaza project, a major re-grading and resurfacing of the base area, guest walkways and the Admin parking lot. The ski area has improved accessibility for all guests, with wider walkways, accessible ramps, and a better pedestrian surface. This completes the look and feel of the new Base Area Plaza. Base ‘n Edge Tune Shop – This season, the ski area added Montana Crystal One Automated Service Machine, an investment for the ski area to better accommodate same-day tunes for skiers and snowboarders. The A-Basin Kids Center is a place for kids in Snowsports lessons and programs to call their own. with sustainability in mind, including renewable energy via solar panels, the 7100-square foot, $2.3 million building houses kids lesson check-in, kids’ ski and snowboard rentals, and special dining and play space forAdditionally, the ground level of the building serves as the Ski Patrol First Aid center with updated medical equipment and ski patrol facilities. A-Basin family tip: In addition to the Kids Center, Arapahoe Basin created a new Family Zone on the second floor of the iconic A-Frame base lodge. This new colorfully painted play and rest area is for all families to use at their leisure.




#RaceToOpen and the longest season in Colorado – When summer is winding down, A-Basin begins preparations as one of the annual contenders in Colorado’s “Race to Open.” typically begins in late September; the ski area generally opens in mid-October and closes in early June. Last season, A-Basin opened on October 29, 2015 (a relatively late opening for us!), and turned the lifts for 224 days, finally closing on June 12, 2016. There have been several seasons where A-Basin has remained open until the Fourth of July, and, back in 1995, the ski area remained open until August 10.
