A DEVASTATED dad has released a heartbreaking photo of his son in a coma after he was mowed down in a hit-and-run. Mikey Ford, 19, suffered a serious head injury when he was struck by a car while crossing the road. Mikey, from Fareham, Hants, was in a coma for three days and has struggled with memory loss since. He is also unable to remember anything from the day he was struck down on July 8. HE GIVES US MOUR 'I'll knock you out' Dad Darren Ford, 47, said: “I wanted to release the picture so the driver of the other car could see what has been done to my boy. “It was very scary for the first couple of days.
We feared he would never wake up. “When he did wake up he was just saying ‘where am I?’ Mikey was in a coma for three days before he came back round, and is now recovering after his horrific ordeal “He was very unsure of everything, but he is talking now, though it causes a real strain on him. He finds it hard work to make a sentence as it causes him pain. “Doctors have told us it really is too early to tell how bad the damage to his head is.” Mikey is a keen skateboarder and it was feared he would never be able to enjoy the hobby again because of an injury to his left foot. However, he has been given a boost after he finally managed to move his toes – ending fears he could have permanent nerve damage. Mikey had only graduated from a painting and decorating course at Fareham College a few days before he was struck down. His dad said: “Mikey was just a normal kid. He loved his skateboarding, loved his scooter and his college course was his life.”
Darren has been in to see Mikey everyday since the incident and says that he is “‘slowly on the mend and getting perkier”. He added: “All we can hope for is the best and that he recovers quickly.” A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said that a person has been questioned relating to the incident but no charges have been brought.
