In this article I’m going to review the Simmons Beauty rest Recharge Series Mitzi Pillow-top mattress. I would describe the feel of this mattress as a medium-soft. It’s relatively firm from within, but the pillow-top will add a certain amount of softness, not too soft though which means that on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being super firm and 10 being really super soft, this is probably about a 7. This mattress is best for side sleepers and back sleepers but not so much for stomach sleepers. In my experience stomach sleepers tend to do better with non-pillow-top mattresses. However for side sleepers and back sleepers, this is great because when you’re on your side the pillow-top will help conform your body to the mattress a lot better. It will help get rid of pressure points, and when you’re on your back you’re also going to notice that it conforms really well, it will fill in the spot between your lower back and the mattress. Your shoulder area will sink down a little bit and it will keep you in a pretty natural, nice alignment.
This is also great for couples who want to find a mattress that’s pretty soft, but that will still helps reduce motion transfer so they don’t feel each other tossing and turning in bed. This cheap Simmons Mattress uses the classic Beautyrest pocketed coil system, which means each innerspring sits in its own piece of fabric so that there’s no actual metal on metal contact in the entire system. It’s an 800 coil density which is great for reducing motion transfer. This is the thing that Simmons Beautyrest mattresses have been known for many many years. If you remember the old bowling ball commercials where the guy would drop a bowling ball on the mattress and it would create like no motion, that’s what this is right here. As far as the pillow-top goes, it has two 1 inch layers of AirCool Foam, which is a type of polyurethane foam that’s channeled, and is supposed to promote greater air flow throughout the mattress. It also has a 2 inch layer of Plush Comfort Foam, which is like a polyurethane, a soft type of polyurethane foam and it has a ½ inch layer of GelTouch foam, which is a polyurethane foam that’s been infused with gel.
It also has a layer of ½ inch Luxury Firm Comfort Foam, which is another type of polyurethane foam. As far as customer satisfaction goes for this best value Simmons mattress, the feedback has been very positive. This is a pretty new model which was just released several months ago, and since then it’s quickly become one of the most popular pillow-top mattresses on the showroom floor for me. I think it’s because it’s very comfortable for the price range, around $899 or $999 for a queen, and it’s very comfortable. Feedback for budget Simmons Beautyrest mattresses in general over the years has always been mixed and I’ve noticed that people tend to either really love and stay very loyal to the affordable Simmons Beautyrest brand, or they just don’t care for it. The people who tend to like Simmons, they tend to buy it over and over and over, and they have their family members buy it as well. It’s very comfortable, great for back sleeping, great for side sleeping, the individually wrapped pocketed coil system is very nice and it works really well in eliminating motion transfer.
Maybe not quite as well as something like memory foam, but it works very well for an innerspring mattress. It also conforms better to the body. It seems to keep you in a much more natural alignment especially when you’re sleeping on your side. Another positive for this mattress is it’s pretty affordable for most people. Like I said earlier, $899-$999 seems to be about the price range for this particular model which is good value. As far as negatives go on this Simmons Mattress for cheap, one of the biggest negatives in my opinion is the fact that Simmons participates in the “different model name game.” For example, I’m reviewing the Mitzi pillow-top, but there could literally be hundreds of different model names across the country for the exact same model here. What happens is each retailer gets to pick out their own model name which makes it a frustrating experience, not customer friendly and highly irritating if you’re trying to do any sort of research or comparison on this mattress.
Another potential negative on this mattress is sagging. That has been an ongoing complaint for cheap Simmons Beautyrest for years now especially with any sort of pillow-top like this where there’s lots of soft polyurethane foam. Body impressions are going to show up. Therfore, keep in mind that sagging is probably inevitable on this mattress, at least at about the 3, 4, 5-year mark.
