The Pella Corporation is a privately held window and door manufacturing company headquartered in Pella, Iowa, and with manufacturing and sales operations in a number of locations in the United States. The company was founded in 1925 when Peter Kuyper and his wife Lucille invested $5,000 to buy the Rolscreen Company, a small business that had created the Rolscreen insect window screen that rolls out of sight when not in use.
[2] In 1926 they moved the company to Pella, Iowa, where the Kuyper family had a lumber business. The company developed into one of the largest window manufacturers in the United States. The company changed its name to Pella Corporation in 1992. [5] In 2007, Pella Corporation, which had historically focused on the residential construction sector, bought Efco Corp., a manufacturer of commercial windows in Monett, Missouri. In 1992, Pella entered the national retail market with windows and patio doors, adding select lumberyard distribution in 1994. In 2001, Pella introduced Pella Design Centers to mainstream market customers, as a “store-within-a-store inside Lowe’s stores and staffed by Lowe's employees. Pella earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy‚ (DOE) Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award in 2009 and 2010.[9] Pella Corporation earned an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year 2013 award, presented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) for manufacturing energy-efficient windows and educating consumers about them.

The Kuyper Rolscreen Charitable Trust was established in 1952 by Pete and Lucille Kuyper. It was reorganized in 1968 as the Pella Rolscreen Foundation. Most storm doors are mounted on a metal frame that’s screwed to wood molding surrounding the door. When the metal frame on the hinge side of the door comes loose, or the molding itself loosens, the door sags and scrapes against the other side of the frame, usually near the top. Before you grab your tools, partly open the door from the outside and push the door up and down. Watch the hinge side of the door frame. If the molding moves, secure it with extra nails (Photo 1).
Start by adding a couple of nails near the top of the wood trim. Then add nails farther down if necessary. Sink the nailheads slightly with a nail set, cover the heads with acrylic caulk and touch up the molding with paint. More often than not, it’s the metal frame that comes loose, not the wood trim. To fix the metal frame, buy a few No. 8 x 1-in. pan head screws. Stainless steel screws are best. Stick a shim between the door and the frame (as in Photo 1), tighten the existing screws and drill new screw holes through the frame. Press lightly as you drill the metal; you don’t want to drill into the wood molding with the 3/16-in. bit. Then drill a 3/32-in. pilot hole into the wood and add screws (Photo 2).
