In a 2008 report, the U.S. Department of Agriculture cited a 1998 figure by the Environmental Protection Agency that the equivalent of roughly 250,000 single-family homes were being demolished annually in the U.S., resulting in more than one billion board feet of usable, structural lumber that could be reclaimed from those projects. Municipalities are slowly but surely awakening to that trend, and as a result are becoming more progressive on waste dumping, charging higher tipping fees, and not accepting certain types of materials, Anne Nicklin executive director for the Chicago-based Building Materials Reuse Association (BMRA) told ARCHITECT earlier this month. Others, like Seattle and Cook County, which includes the city of Chicago, are going so far as to encourage, or in the case of the latter, require, deconstruction for material salvage on some projects.

Architects and builders are beginning to get on board, too."I don’t think architects realize how much they can reuse on their own sites," Nicklin said. "On most sites there’s a building that came down and still has a lot of [functional] materials—plywood, joists, glulam, stud walls, commercial steel— that are incredibly expensive to buy but are currently undervalued in the reuse market.", to educate project teams on what types of waste wood are suitable for reuse, and in what capacity, and provides a database of North American suppliers, searchable by location, that buy and sell “This is a huge opportunity for designers to use reclaimed wood products as a means to reduce the environmental impact of the buildings they design and renovate,” Robert Glowinski, president and CEO of the American Wood Council, told ARCHITECT by email. “The website can act as an easily-accessible tool to obtain responsibly reclaimed wood products in their area.”

The site has two components: a Sustainable Wood Guide and a BusinessThe guide includes material categories such as heavy-timber construction, engineered flooring, I-joists, urban wood, and wood chips. It offers basic information on each material category—how it's manufactured, what it's used for, and where it can be found—as well as options for reuse. The more interesting, and perhaps more useful, portion of the site, however, is the directory. Users can input their location, materials they're looking for, services provided (deconstruction, recycling, reuse dealers, for example), as well as a distance range. "It is designed to help make connections between suppliers and customers at the sector level to provide joint solutions in the recycling and reuse of wood products," Glowinski explained. "For example, a demolition team might use the website to contact a nearby deconstruction or recycling vendor in order to responsibly dispose of their used wood products.

Or, a builder hoping to find locally recycled wood for acoustic use in the atrium of a building can use the directory to find a dealer in their area."As wood construction makes strides into the multi-story commercial and multifamily market, and project teams are encouraged by industry groups and a growing body of research to consider wood as a structural product, knowing how to reclaim and reuse the material is an important consideration. The requested URL /forums/showthread.php?t=1656 was not found on this server.Quite a few of our salvage parts are available online. Completing automotive repairs with used or salvage parts makes a lot of sense if minimizing the cost on a repair bill is the only concern. Although we sell a lot of high-quality used Jaguar parts and used Land Rover parts, we advise customers to carefully consider all options before deciding on installing a used part. Substituting a high-quality used part is more often than not an acceptable choice, but that is not to say that it is always the best option. Keep in mind that each repair on any given vehicle often presents a unique situation, so before buying used, make sure you understand the repair and part(s) involved but also our salvage & used parts policy. So, what makes a good used part? By far the most common salvage items are replacement body panels, fenders, doors and such. These items make great salvage parts because they are formed from superior steel and provide a factory fit and finish. Our huge selection of original Jaguar and Land Rover body parts often times enables us to match the color of your vehicle's factory original paint which saves you money at the paint & body shop.

Body parts and panels are not the only used part candidates. Many other kinds of parts like hub carriers for example can be a good choice to buy used simply for the cost savings over the cost of a new one. Other parts that can make buying used a good choice include alternators and starters. We have plenty of electrical system parts including a very large selection of various electrical system "bits". If you're looking for electrical, call us....chances are good that we'll have what you need. Another factor that will influence your decision to buy used is market availability. Availability starts to become an issue when new parts are sold as special order only or when the part no longer receives factory service and support (like Jaguar XJ6 Series II radio trim pieces, carburetors, etc...). Either of these situations make sourcing a good used part both affordable and timely. At any given time our salvage yard may contain in access of 400 Jaguars and Land Rovers in various states of the dismantling process.

Only the highest quality salvageable parts from these vehicles get pulled and inventoried in our 36,000 square foot warehouse we built specifically for our Jaguar and Land Rover salvage and used parts program. While growing our late model inventory is a priority for us, we still have a substantial selection of used parts for the following Jaguar and Land Rover models that we're making great deals on: XJ6 Series III 1980-1987, XJ6 XJ40 1988-1994, XJ6 1995-1997, XJS 1975-1996 (convertible and coupe), S-type 00-06, XJ8 1998-2006, XK8 1997-2006 (convertible and coupe), Range Rover Classic 1985-1995, Range Rover 4.0-4.6 1995-2004, Discovery I 1994-1999, Discovery II 1999-2001. The part you need - be it a set of Jaguar wheels, Land Rover wheels or an engine and transmission - is likely sitting on the shelf ready to ship. Salvage inventory fluctuates on a daily basis, so If you are interested in used Jaguar or Land Rover parts please contact our sales department by phone at 800-338-5238 or email for the most current parts availability and pricing.
