The fourth TenOverTen Manhattan salon opened in the Financial District on Tuesday, while the first location outside of New York City will open in Austin, Texas on December 1. “To open five locations in five years is very exciting for us,” co-founder Nadine Abramcyk says, adding, “but we never want to lose that mom and pop feel. We want to be a neighborhood nail salon.” You sense that at the new FiDi location. Although the Fulton Street salon is the brand’s biggest to date (roughly twice the size of their Tribeca space) and has 18 pedicure chairs and 14 manicure stations in the main area, a back room you can rent out for your BFF’s birthday with six pedicure chairs and six manicure stations, and two waxing rooms with sugaring hair removal services available (newly rolling out to all locations), it hardly feels cookie-cutter. Like TenOverTen’s other locations, there’s a stylish modern flair that imbues the space with way more personality than your typical corner salon.
The exhaust fans at the front and back of the space to increase air quality (a concern following the New York Times article on nail salons). They’re also embracing the neighborhood: Not only will the FiDi location open at 8 a.m. to cater to a 9-to-5 clientele, but TenOverTen is moving their office headquarters there as well. “So much is going on and changing in FiDi right now,” Abramcyk says. “There are old New York City businesses there that have been there forever and so many new players coming in. It’s fun to see and be part of the resurgence.” Meanwhile, due south, the Austin salon will open inside the boutique South Congress Hotel with 10 pedicure chairs, 10 manicure stations, and one waxing room. “It will be great to experiment in a warm weather place, where people get pedicures year-round,” Abramcyk explains. “People are so health-conscious in Austin, like they are in New York.
