Wheelchair rugby is a team sport for athletes seeking the ultimate physical challenge.It is currently practiced in over forty countries around the world and is a Paralympic sport. Developed in Canada in 1977, the sport’s original name was murderball. Wheelchair rugby is played indoors on a hardwood court. Produced in a modern purpose built facility in Wales, only the very best quality raw materials and components are used in the manufacture of these unique wheelchairs. In addition to the standard models, those wheelchair athletes who require a bespoke rugby wheelchair can purchase at an additional charge, a wheelchair to fit their own body shape using our own patented measuring system. Spinergy wheels are fitted as standard to all chairs. Roma utilises the latest production and R&D techniques which includes our very own rolling road facility which enables us to vigorously test all components and products. Working closely with Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby we supply both offensive and defensive models and as the sport has gained in popularity we have now added a youth version. Within the Rugby range there is a choice of Offensive and Defensive chairs. These can be purchased as made to measure, which involves utilising our patented Contour Body Mapping fitting process, that allows us to take measurements to within two decimal points of a persons optimum seating position – or we can build generic chairs that can be used within a team environment, this can be achieved through selecting from a series of standard size options. For athletes unable to use this service we also offer a Pro Made to Measure, where we manufacture the chair to the athlete’s specifications, supplied on a prescription form. As with the Elite pro model, Spinergy wheels are supplied as standard. The Club range has been introduced with seat sizes ranging from 380mm to 480mm. These are available in Attack and Defence models. Roma Sport is proud to supply Rugby Wheelchairs to many of the clubs and charities in Great Britain and was honoured to be the supplier of Rugby Wheelchairs for the inaugural Invictus Games 2014 held in London and the Invictus Games 2016, held in Orlando, Florida, USA. Tickets for October’s BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge featuring seven of the world’s best teams competing in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, Great Britain, are now on sale.
The tournament, which will take place at the Copper Box Arena between 12-16 October, will he headlined by Paralympic and world champions Australia, European champions Great Britain and Beijing 2008 Paralympic champions USA. Canada, silver medallists at London 2012 and last year’s World Championships, also line-up with Japan, South Africa and New Zealand. All nine sessions are on sale at ticketmaster.co.uk including Great Britain’s pool matches, the USA v Canada 'murderball' opening match, the semi-finals and the gold medal match. Our MK V Contour Body Mapping® system calculates your measurements to within two decimal points. CAD design is used as standard to build your chair and offers you a rendered image of your Vida. Pressure mapping is available to assess your seating requirements to help alleviate the need for expensive cushions. The second fitting is standard for all made to measure products. A second fit allows you test your chair while it is tack welded to make any minor adjustments before completion.
