Each summer 70 of ROADSHOW's appraisers in two dozen areas of expertise greet guests and look at more than 60,000 antiques and collectibles. What follows is a slideshow of the types of objects our experts see most frequently in their travels. What should you bring with you to ANTIQUES ROADSHOW ... or not? These items are fairly common throughout the country — and most have a value below $500. Read on to learn about the items that might already be tucked away in your attic. Or, if you have tickets to one of our events this summer, it might help you decide what to bring!...EBay can be a scary place. One late night beer-fueled perusal of the site can have irrevocable consequences on your bank account. I know this is true because I have a bright red 1987 Yamaha keytar that reminds me of this fact every day. I have faith that you can find much cooler ways to break the bank on eBay than I did. For example, here are seven horror movie themed items worthy of splurging on (or at least putting on your watchlist):
ITEM: HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH SILVER SHAMROCK MASKS If the ugly duckling of the HALLOWEEN franchise gave us anything, it was the fear of cheap looking masks. This lot includes the only masks produced by the fictional Silver Shamrock Novelties: The Green Witch Mask, The Pumpkin Head Mask, and the Skull Mask. They are identical replicas of the masks created by the evil Conal Cochran in an effort to cause the mass murder of children on Halloween night. Of course that means each mask comes with the Silver Shamrock power chip complete with Stonehenge technology…or something. Bugs and snakes not included. ITEM: A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3 SCREEN-USED FREDDY KRUEGER PUPPET HEAD One of the most memorable scenes in the entire NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET franchise is Philip’s death in DREAM WARRIORS. Freddy morphs into a marionette doll in Philip’s room and then proceeds to turn him into a human marionette himself by slashing his extremities to ribbons and using his flayed ligaments as strings.
Freddy is one helluva crafty bastard. Now, you can own a piece of that famous sequence. Up for grabs is one of the stop motion Freddy puppet heads used to create that scene. ITEM: PHANTASM SPHERE SIGNED BY ANGUS SCRIMM AND DON COSCARELLI If you’ve ever wanted to own the Tall Man’s weapon of choice, here’s your chance. This sentinel sphere is so screen accurate it’s even powered by a moist shrunken brain. Also, it actually works as an electric drill—so you can add a macabre flair to your household chores. ITEM: LIFESIZE ANIMATRONIC ANNABELLE DOLL REPLICA The star of THE CONJURING and ANNABELLE can be yours forever. This replica is lovingly crafted to be as detailed and precise as possible. And just like the original doll, it moves on its own. If the doll isn’t already frightening enough, you can customize it with blood-shot demon eyes. Place Annabelle on a rocking chair in your foyer for the full creepy effect—although I doubt she’ll stay there.
ITEM: EVIL DEAD II: DEAD BY DAWN “EVIL ED” TORSOYou could be that person with the catchphrase “Good, Bad, I’m the guy with the full-sized Deadite in my living room.” You know you want to be that guy! As seen in EVIL DEAD II: DEAD BY DAWN, this beautifully grotesque torso of Professor Knowby’s unfortunate assistant Ed, is the most detailed Deadite around. Evil Ed is best displayed in a remote cabin setting complete with lots of fake (or real) blood. Make an offer before @IconsRobG does. ITEM: GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH ORIGINAL GREMLIN PUPPET Straight from master creature creator Rick Baker’s personal collection, comes this awesome original puppet from GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH. This specific gremlin was used for shots of upper body motion in the film. This guy also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Mr. Baker himself. For those on a budget, there are also a surprising amount of full scale Gremlin replicas made by NECA Toys that are much more affordable floating around on eBay, too.
ITEM: LOG SLICE FROM ALICE’S CABIN IN FRIDAY THE 13TH Need the perfect conversation piece for your house party? Get a framed log slice from the Crystal Lake cabin used in the film that literally spawned Jason Voorhees’ murderous career. You can also get a framed piece of the swimming dock used in the film, a souvenir bottle of water from Crystal Lake, a vial of sand from the beach, and even dice made from the main cabin. And the best part is that all proceeds go to charity.
