Overall, we had a good experience in this hotel. I would recommend it for the right price. However, it's not excellent. Positives: food and drink quality, entertainment, bar, and restaurant staff, pool area. Needs work: Very slow restaurant service (our food took 50 minutes to arrive), furniture in rooms is very old, rooms need remodeling, reception staff are not very friendly (some are borderline rude), night shows are good but a bit repetitive. Towel system: They have a very annoying pool/beach towel system, where you have to make sure you do not misplace your towel or you pay $20 for it. I had never seen this before and found it very frustrating, especially in an all inclusive hotel, where the point is that you do not worry about little things like this. My family and I enjoyed the attention, kindness, smiles of resort staff. The restaurants, pool, rooms were very cleaned. If you are traveling with family, you bet this is the place to visit. If you are traveling as explorer, then you will find more than 500 k species to see plus the mountains, views of towns and volcanos.

Tons of activities to do, including the best reefs in the planet. We stayed at the riu palace the first week of august 2016. It was facing the jungle and it was beatiful. The pool bar was the best, the guys knew us by middle of the week and had drinks waiting for us, we tipped them a little as well, just common courtesy to do so. The staff was great, drinks were grwat, pool area was clean. The beach right at the end of the resort was the best! We also got massages at the beach, which was amazing. Fed monkeys near the resort anf walked the beach everyday. It was a vrry romantic honeymoon. The only thing that needs work would be the themed restaurants, food service, and the after hours snacks, they really were not all that. The buffet was the best. Also, the shower is quite slippery, so be careful in there. I fell very hard on areas without the mat. I would definitely go back! I didnt even get any mosquito bites! first time in Costa Rica Riu palace. I have to say the experience was very unpleasant.

The front desk staffs are rude and slow. It seems like we don't exist whe we ask for something. However, there is only one guy out of 7 different staffs we dealt with, his name is Daniel, very helpful and seems like he knows answer to your questions. Housekeeping is not up to par compares to other resorts I stayed at. We have to ask for shampoo on a daily basis and it seems like we have to beg for it. Access to restaurants very complicated and as a result you eat at same buffet every day. If you like that go and enjoy. The hotel staff was amazing, from the time we checked in until we left. My daughter has a food allergy and I was concerned about what she could eat. I went to the front desk about it, and they printed out a special letter that we showed to each specialty restaurant we attended. Each chef made her a special gluten-free meal that was beautiful and that she loved! There was excellent food at each restaurant, including the buffet Arenal. The servers were friendly and attentive.

The front desk staff helped answer our questions each day, directing us when we had specific needs. The lunch by the pool was fresh and delicious every day (bbq'd ribs, chicken, pork, beans & rice). We had a wonderful experience and would recommend the Riu Palace. Special staff: Helario, Kenneth, Max, Edgar, Sandoval, & especially Sabrina! Excellent experience the only issue would be the spotty wifi Staff very friendly & helpful. However hotel should really invest in air fresheners (glade plug-ins) - room beautiful but smells.Landscape is beautiful, and well maintained. plenty of pool space, lots of chair, and shade. Food was great, papagayo restaurant (steakhouse) was excellent. buffets has plenty of choices, and very tasty as well. the whole staff was great, very attentive, and eager to please you. I was pleased with the good service all around the Hotel facilities. For sure one of my best times I ever had by myself. It was a Relaxed, entertained & comfortable staying.

Thanks to all the Team! loved our stay in Riu , great food and hotel staff . The only bad thing LAR taxi staff are money hungry other words will try not to help but do there best for to pay more. Other than that great place to visit Good trip, hotel was clean, staff attentive and helpful. Food and alcohol as one would expect at 4/5 stars all inclusive. Good quality and very decent variety. Coffee shop was a nice perk...very good cappuccinos. The beach had lovely shade trees, water was clear, but the beach is harder volcanic sand (we did not mind) Location is fairly secluded. It was our first time in Costa Rica and we will enjoy visiting again. This hotel was a great place to stay. The staff is warm and friendly. They are eager to please and want to meet their customers needs. There was fresh fruit and vegetables available each day. The presentation of food was well done. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Costa Rica, and it was because if the people's warmth and belief in living the good life.

This Hotel was great. There was a limitless amount of activities which kept us busy. The food was great with a variety of different restaurants. The staff was wonderful and very attentive. Would definitely do another all-inclusive it was great all food and drinks were included. Met some wonderful couples from all over as well.Myself and 2 other buddies went for a week long getaway fishing and drinking. Hotel was perfect for what we were looking for. We will be back. The staff were fantastic. The setting is perfect to unwind and relax. The food was great and there was always some close by. The SPA was the most disappointing part of the hotel. They just didn't seem to care. The side trips were very good as well. Very nice stay, comfortable and relaxing... A bit too reclusive location. The resort can use dedicated pool/beach facilities near those areas(bathrooms) otherwise excellent value! Beautiful hotel , lots to do, has 4 pools and the food was delicious ! We will be staying there again .
