Appearance

Ren is a seventeen year old boy, very close to being of age. He has a slim physique, due to his nervous gastritis which prevented him from eating well for several years which still leaves him underweight for his height and tall, reaching 182cm, which features a fine boned build while also giving it a slight sense of elegance.

His complexion is light pink, and sometimes even pale, with thick red pigmentation on the tips of his ears and on his hands (mostly on the knuckles and fingertips).

His veins are often in plain sight giving shades of blue all over his body.

His elongated face, and his outlined jaw give him a good facial structure. (Making him looks like most average anime characters)

His hair are a dark brown that looks mostly black in the dark and in everyday life, but when he's in the sunlight it has nice brownish shades.

In the same way are the eyes, however these, if under the sunlight, have a color that resembles chocolate with hazelnuts.

Due to his insomnia problems, his eyes are almost always marked by dark circles that can range from blue to dark purple.

His lips are medium-bodied and pink in color, however they are often damaged and chapped.

Also, his ears are slightly protruding.

Ren often assumes closed or humped positions making him seem very shy and recluded, however when he takes care of himself he has the appearance of an easygoing and very polite boy.

The way she dresses is monotonous and often one-colored, yet it is elegant. Sometimes he dresses in loose, comfortable clothing.

Normally he prefers to either wear a tracksuit with an oversized shirt, or a slightly larger shirt and an oversized hoodie. Or he prefers to dress in jeans or dress pants, both of black color, a white shirt and over it a black gilet or gulf.

In addition, Ren wears glasses, even if he often forgets to wear them, which have a large and square frame.

Ren also has several moles along his body, with 5 on the left side of his face and another on the left side of his neck.

He also has one towards the middle and one at the end of his bicep and another near the wrist of his right arm. In the left arm, on the other hand, he has only one at the end of the bicep.

Ren has various scars along his body, some made by himself during mental breakdowns.

On the frontal region, at the very beginning of the hairline, he has a scar made in the kindergarten where they put five stitches to close it.

Another is a scar that he got during the second year of elementary school after hitting his head on the corner of the desk, the position of it is more or less in the center of the nape.

He also has a tiny scar that he doesn't even know how he got it, he just woke up one day and found it there, it's in the anterior elbow band.

The others are scars that he got himself during his little mental breakdowns, they are six horizontal scars that are found in the forearm.

Personality

Ren is a difficult individual, most people seem to have trouble understanding what he thinks and often he brings up arguments that are completely unrelated to the situation he is in.

Often he seems to show that he has attention problems, detaching himself from the situations around him with arguments don't concern the situation or simply just forgetting what he is doing at the moment, or simply ignore the situation because he would rather do something else than that.

He often shows that he has problems relating to people, shown by how he prefers to talk as little as possible with a person unless he is really forced or he already liked that person to begin with. With people he likes, Ren shows a more playful and kind side, while with those he doesn't like he shows a colder and more calculating and often evil side. That said he often hides those traits and pretends that he likes those people, making fake smiles and letting the conversation flow like nothing happened.

With people he likes, he shows a specific side, namely, his preferring to sacrifice his own physical and mental well-being for them, rather than hurting them or letting others hurt them.

That's mostly caused by his thinking that since he isn't enough he should at least help others.

This self-deprecation is a recurring pattern of behaviour with him. For all that he loves others, he is extremely harsh on himself, being insecure and having very low self-esteem and self-worth. He used to perceive himself as perpetually alone and struggled with recognizing when people genuinely cared for and looked up to him, although he has become better at this since he got in his fourth year of highschool and met better people.

He is usually quite casual when he speaks to others, but when he's shocked or nervous, he has a tendency to speak formally. He is also used to using formal speech with elders, mostly the parents of the people he likes to make a better impression.

He also seems to have a somewhat weak spot for children, with him trying to be kinder and more sympathetic to them since according to him there is no need to resent them as they have not yet done anything wrong.

Abilities and Powers

While being a normal human in most things, he possesses somewhat of a vast knowledge in various things and is multilingual, being able to talk Italian, English, Japanese and somewhat of Spanish and French. His physical capabilities don't have anything remarkable to them.

Rasiel/Beelzebub

He possesses a special ability that he names either Rasiel (ラジエル/ 囁告篇帙, Rashieru?. lit. "Tome of Revelation") or Beelzebub (ベルゼバブ/ 神蝕篇帙, Beruzebabu?. lit. "Tome of Divine Corruption") on different and varying occasions, with Rasiel being the most commonly used name. He took the name from a certain franchise. It takes on the form of a big tome and it gives Ren a vast range of abilities. It can be summoned everywhere and at anytime by Ren, and although he can use some of its abilities without summoning it, he needs to summon it to use all of the abilities.

Ren's supernatural ability, <Rasiel>, is a book that can give the user information about anything that has ever happened in the world, no matter where and when. The user of <Rasiel> becomes near omniscient. Ren describes this ability as "a super powerful search engine", where one has to focus on the sought-after information before arriving at an answer. However, in order to use this ability, he has to consciously think about the subject he is looking into and his book does not automatically detect any danger coming to the user. It is also incapable of giving information about a person's inner thoughts and events that have not occurred yet. Another limitation is that the book can only give facts, so it cannot tell Ren subjective information like what he should do when he's unsure of himself. Additionally, it also gave him illegible information about why he got this ability, demonstrating that either either the answer to the question doesn't exist or someone gave him that power but doesn't want to disclose the reason. He can use his book for surveillance in constantly monitoring other peoples' locations, but will lose track of them if he ceases contact with <Rasiel>.

While Ren's powers with <Rasiel> excel in storing and gathering information, it is much weaker than other people in terms of outright combat. Despite this, his ability's near-omniscience and manipulation of reality are considered God-like when used at full capacity.

It can transfer information about a subject directly into his mind if he just thinks about it and he can freely share this information with others just by simply touching them. It can also summon shadow-like creatures from its pages that follow his every command. The creatures are pretty weak though, being able to be taken out by a normal athlete. By storing informations inside the shadows he can give them a sort of consciousness, making them take on an appearance that follows the descriptions in the Informations.

The pages themselves can serve as a shield capable of blocking attacks from people, the more pages used as a shield the stronger it'll be.

<Rasiel> also creates a "library" in Ren's subconscious, storing there every single information about Ren and whatever information he learns, storing in itself even every book Ren reads, and then being able to replicate the contents of the book onto the pages of <Rasiel> of Ren so desires.

<Rasiel> also possesses a large number of skills:

- Fourth Wall: In its duty as Ren's skill, the Fourth Wall has a number of abilities that center around Ren himself.

It can protect Ren against mental attacks and skills and can offset pain caused by injuries, it also "walls off" Ren's emotions, allowing him to distance himself from events taking place and treat the world as a novel. it can forcibly strengthen itself and numb his emotions, should he get agitated over events such as the life of someone he cares about being in danger. Effectively distancing Ren from the world.

The Fourth Wall weakens when Ren doesn't treat current events as a novel. for instance, it shakes when he meets individuals who he had a long history/deep connection with prior of acquiring this ability, such as relatives.

It can narrate Ren's actions in narrative form. This can assist in upholding his "story", something he does to prove he is alive.

It can also blur Ren's face in others face, making others unable to remember his face when not with him and making them unable to describe him. Others consider him pretty ugly because of it.

As a defense mechanism it can "eat" or absorb individuals, breaking them down to their stories and then eating these stories. When eaten, these individuals find themselves within the <Rasiel>'s library, and should the fourth wall find them worthy, they become librarians, looking after the books and on occasion speaking to Ren

- Reading Comprehension: A skill which appears to increase Ren's ability to read (making him able to read faster) interpret and work with Stories. It's supposed to let him understand better characters from stories and legends since they are actually made out of stories.

- Character List: Allows Ren to read the Attributes Windows of "characters". The attribute window gets created on the pages of <Rasiel>. It only works on people Ren subconsciously considers "characters", or "NPCs", thanks to viewing the world as a Novel because of The Fourth Wall. If he doesn't subconsciously consider someone a character, the skill will not work.

Should too much information be available about a person, Character List will automatically summarize the information about the person, giving <Character Summary> instead of <Character Information>.

The <Character Summary> settings can also be adjusted to show a certain number of items per field, an option usually used when there are too many items to be easily summarized.

- Bookmark: Allows Ren to copy a certain abilty of "characters" that he has a deep understanding of. Easier to use on characters of a book he read than real people he considers characters.

The deeper his understanding of the character, the higher the skill level reproduction. If his understanding of the character is low, only part of the character's ability is activated.

He has a limited number of "slots" in which he can place characters to be bookmarked; if he wants to bookmark another character, he must first release a character from their slot to empty it up.

The ability has a time limit on its use, with 30 minutes a day being the maximum limit.

Originally, he could only use one bookmark at a time. Later, he has gained the ability to use two bookmarks in tandem. However, this halves the overall activation time.

- Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint: Ren's trademark skill. It's normally impossible for <Rasiel> to inform Ren on events that haven't already happened, but this skill simply informs Ren as soon as the event begins, so while it can seem a reading of the future, it is not. Works only on people he considers characters.

Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint has three stages:

Stage 1: Allows him to read the simple actions or emotions of characters; for instance, he can tell where they might aim an attack next.

Stage 2: Allows him to see deep inside characters, reading their specific thoughts. Activation of Stage 2 requires having a deep understanding of the targeted character.

Stage 3: Allows him to see the characters from a 3rd person point of view.

1st person point of view: Activated when Stage 3 is used while he is dying or close to death. He can immerse himself in a character, exerting partial or full control over the character's body, and speak to them within their minds.

- Future Entry (未来記載, Mirai Kisai?): Ren can write on <Rasiel>'s blank pages with a pen created together with <Rasiel>. Everything written in <Rasiel> is fact; therefore, everything that Ren writes in the book will become reality. However, it takes time for the event to be written down, especially since Ren prefers to draw a manga illustration instead of just writing some text, although he prefers to just write it normally if it's an occasion where he has to be quick. The ability to change the future is not absolute, as someone with a great story (life), even such as military veterans, can resist the alterations. Ren also adds that it is unlike for this power to work on someone "with a great story" or simply "a story stronger than mine". Certain events will be canceled anyway after being written or drawn if they have too big of a scale, surpassing Ren's own capacity.

- Ashufiriya (幻書館アシュフィリヤ, Genshokan?. lit. "Phantom Library"): After summoning <Rasiel>, Ren traps the targets into the book and transports them into an adjacent world created by <Rasiel>. According to Ren, the world is created by various scenarios made by people's dreams and imagination. The people imprisoned assume the roles of fairy tales and characters from novels, though several alterations might be made to the source material. Ren can use to trap himself or other people in the world of a book, using it the first time to visit the world of a novel named Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint and getting his first bookmark. To exit this world people need to let the world reach its satisfactory conclusion, its ending. Ren is the one to decide what role the trapped people take, even being able to create entirely new characters to give them free roam in the world of the book. Dying in the world of the book will leave the person in a frozen state till someone doesn't reach the conclusion, if a person is alone in that world then dying there will leave it in a frozen state for about two hours inside the book and not even Ren would be able to take them out.

- Märchen Meines Lebens: A Tale Just For You (メルヒェン・マイネス • レーベンス: 貴方のための物語, Meruhyen Mainesu Rēbensu: Anata no Tame no Monogatari?): it takes the name of the unpolished manuscript of Hans Christian Andersen's autobiography, "The Fairy Tale of My Life". It was “the supreme commentary of all my works" according to him, who once stated that "the majority of what I write are projections of myself." Also called "The Realm of the God of Stories" (物語神の領域, Monogatari-shin no ryōiki).

The skill, or rather, the "realm" occupies a circular area of ​​thirty meters all around Ren. In this area, Ren is able to overwrite reality and make it a real story, becoming able to create objects, clothes, and backgrounds of the stories he chooses. But he can only create things from stories he knows and has completely read. Ren can use this ability to confuse opponents and distract them to escape or things like that. Being a very powerful skill, Ren has a limited use of two full hours per week. Even if he doesn't use it often, wanting to keep the small uses he has of this skill, Ren is able to use this skill for short times and also very quickly.

Itsuka Kotori - Camael's Healing Flames

By bookmarking this ability, Ren also has a powerful regeneration ability, which he uses on many occasions when he uses his normal plans, who usually focus on ignoring whatever damage he takes and making use of this ability. Basically, it is an ability that protects the user from certain death as long as the user has enough "Reiryoku" (Spiritual Energy), which Ren uses to make use of his own ability. The ability takes the form of purple flames with a blue hue that cover the damaged parts of the body and disappear once Ren is healed. It also reverses all physical damage done on the person as if it never happened, but it only covers the recipient's body. The regeneration is potent enough for him to quickly recover from getting shot multiple times by <Zafkiel>'s bullets by Greed, culminating in a point-blank headshot, but it will not activate for minor injuries within the scope of his body's natural healing. Ren can choose wheter to activate this skill or not, even being able to give it a timer, making it activate exactly one minute after he got shot in the head by Greed, effectively getting back from the dead.
