Show All ItemsStep 1: Step 1 Gather IdeasShow All Items First, I looked up what others had done for building a quick bed to get ideas. There's this guy who put a mattress on top of his file boxes. But I didn't have storage boxes like that and I wanted something a little more interesting. Then I looked up some other platform beds, but most involved sawing and screwing (imagine that.) Finally, before heading to a retail hardware store like the famous McGuckin's of Boulder, I decided to go check out ReSource, an architectural & building salvage shop in town. I'd check out McGuckin's later if I needed to. I'd been going to these places for years for other building projects but I wasn't sure yet what I'd find there, or how I'd do it. (The places I've been to are Bring in Eugene, OR, Build It Green in New York City, and ReStore in Philadelphia, PA. IF you're lucky, there might be one in your city too.) Materials I considered included :: 1. Pallets (too splintery and not enough storage)

2. New 2 x 4s or 2 x 6s with plywood or OSB combo (ruled out because of budget, sawing, & screwing) 3. Salvage dresser drawers (could have structural issues), 4. Salvage doors (a good choice for size & sturdiness, but not in the budget, and what would they rest them on?) and 5. Old milk crates (not so easy to find these days, also they're plastic, I like natural materials better.) 6. Scraps of hardwood flooring Check out Step 2 to see what I picked.(Note, photo credit for the cabinet picture:: ReSource website.)« PreviousNext »View All Steps Download 1,722 posts, read 2,673,922 times So to follow up on my previous post bed frame I found a replacement frame, identical to the one we had, at a furinture store. I put it together and a few nights later we were getting ready for bed, I was laying on my side and she sitting on the edge of the same side, and the same thing happened again, the tab on the center cross beam sheared off and the rail buckled in the center rolling me off the bed.

The bed frame that we have has two rails with a single center beam running perpendicular to the rails using the head/foot boards as the support. Does any one have any at home reinforcement remedies for my predicament? 9,640 posts, read 4,574,867 times 2,398 posts, read 4,128,982 times As I said before.... buy a base frame, we use this from WalMart: It's a "bolt together" design, not a hook. This means you need some adapters, we use these: - #69 Down Hook Bolt-On to Hook-On Conversion Bracket for Headboard or Footboard Attachment - Bed Frame To Head Board Bracket There are others though, we use those Specifically because we're using a queen bed/frame with 1930's Art Deco head and footboards (needed to have the hooks inside of the frame rails): That wally world bed frame doesn't show the corner brackets in their photo, so they may be something extra (and needed in this case). Anyway, this setup is rock solid. I've been as heavy as 280lbs and had no issue with this setup (no box spring, not needed).

When you have 6 legs per side (12 total) supporting a metal framework, you simply don't have issues with the bed falling apart. Yes, it's a little bit of an investment up till you would have bought your next box spring.. then it's a deal. Ditto on the continual repair/replacement of wood frames. If you DO want to continue with the old style twin-beam then buy something like this: Metal will not shear, and by adding 3 more supports to relieve the load on the head/foot boards everything will live longer. 3,295 posts, read 2,440,850 times 9,526 posts, read 14,086,372 times 1,718 posts, read 2,534,186 times Knickerbocker makes some of the best frames, including the "Monster" of 2" railroad steel. Skip the footboard, use hook-on adapters for attaching the headboard. You can still get wooden rails and something like a Bed Beam support system. If you want a bed frame that can hold up today's heavy foam-heap mattresses plus two adults, you have to put some money into it.

You could use a metal or wood platform base and use some type of brackets to attach the head & foot.(Click to see larger image and other views) Home / Products / Bed Frames, Rails & Parts > Bed Frame Parts and Hardware Replacement Bed Frame Feet This product qualifies for FREE SHIPPING! When I went to remove the broken on and replace it with this one, I found it to be smaller and less substantial. I hope it lasts. Bobby H. on 10/31/2016 11:20:44 AM Comments: The product is OK, but it is the wrong size. SLeep shop did not list the critical dimensions and these are the wrong diameter. As far as I can tell, the product quality seems OK. "Got right away and exact fit" Andrew A. on 10/31/2016 8:53:59 AM Comments: I got it very quickly and no problems installing. Why don't you accept returns on bed frames, bed rails and bed supports?Bed frames, bed rails, and bed supports are very large, bulky items that are extremely costly to ship.

Due to their size, shipments of bed frames and bed rails are always subject to oversize charges, making the shipping costs even greater. It is very expensive for us to ship to you and expensive for you to ship back to us. Because we are a small company (only five full-time employees), we cannot absorb all those costs. For these reasons, we do not allow returns or exchanges on our large, bulky items. Once an item has shipped, your order cannot be cancelled or returned or exchanged. Please do not refuse an item when you receive the package to try to return the item. We will NOT accept it back and we will not issue a refund. The main reason customers want to return an item is because of accidentally ordering the wrong size. It is really important to measure your bed. This is especially important for California King and regular King size. You may think you have the biggest bed in the world, but California King is not bigger than the regular king; See all the bed sizes. Because of your return policy, it seemsas if your company doesn't stand behind your products.

We completely stand behind our products and we promises our bed frames and bed rails will be as described on our website. Unfornately, we cannot promise that one of our products will work for or with with your specific headboard, bed, etc. There are too many different types of beds for us to make that kind of guarantee.
