Make your air mattress more comfortable and convenient by raising it on a wooden frame. The frame lifts it off the floor, making it easier for your guests to sit on as well as to sleep on. Use sheets of plywood to make it a platform bed so there's no need for box springs. With a few basic carpentry tools, you can make a frame for your air mattress and convert any room in your house into an instant bedroom. Measure and mark a line at 6 feet, 9 inches on two of the 2-by-4-inch boards. Cut at the mark with a circular saw. Mark a line on four of the 2-by-4-inch boards after measuring to 4 feet, 9 inches, then cut the boards. Cut each of the 4-by-4-inch boards in half after measuring and marking a line 3 feet down each board. You should end up with six 4-by-4-inch boards, all 3 feet long. These are the legs of your frame. Draw a rectangle on your plywood that is 6 feet, 9-inches by 5 feet rectangle. Use a level to draw the lines straight. Cut out the rectangle with your circular saw. This creates the base for your queen-sized air mattress.
Sand the edges of the cut lumber until smooth. If you like the look of unfinished wood, there's no need to paint. Or, paint the wood the color of your choice or stain it for a more natural look. Allow the wood to dry. Create the outside of your frame by laying the two long 2-by-4 pieces you cut on their short edges so they stand up. Lay them parallel to each other. Lay the shorter, 4-foot-by-9-inch boards on their short edges in between the longer pieces. These should rest inside the long boards and flush with the ends to make a large rectangle. Drive three 4-inch wood screws through the outside of the long boards into the ends of the short boards to hold the frame together. Measure 27 inches from each end and mark the long pieces. Place the two remaining 2-by-4 boards on their short edges inside the frame at the marks. Drive three 4-inch wood screws through the outside of the frame into the ends of the interior support beams. Place a 4-by-4 board inside each corner of the frame. These should be flush with the base of the frame that is touching the floor.
Drive two 4-inch wood screws through the outside of each 2-by-4 board at the corners into the 4-by-4 boards. Measure 40 1/2 inches down the long side of the frame and mark the spot. Center a 4-by-4 leg on each side of the bed, then screw them in place with two 4-inch wood screws each. Turn the frame over onto its legs. Lay the plywood on top of the frame, lining it up with the edges of the frame. Drive 2 1/2-inch wood screws through the plywood into the wood frame every 6 inches. Secure it to the support beams across the center of the frame as well. Linens are not included. Each rental product is priced as a one week rental. After one week items are 10% of the weekly rate for each additional day after the 7th night.
