So, yeah, they go hand in hand. Before you set out to buy a bed, you should ask yourself if you really need a bed or a good mattress. When buying a bed what you need to care for most is: Your bed is a life time investment. You are going to live with it/ sleep on it for at least 10 yrs so go for comfort even if it is a little more expensive. When you go to a store, always sit on it or lie down for a while on the bed and check if you can feel the comfort or not. Don’t ever compromise on this factor of your bed at any cost. Now to answer some of the queries in your mind while buying a bed. WHAT TYPE OF A BED: A maharaja bed is a typical wooden bed with beautifully carved headboard and legs. The dark wood polish gives it an antique look, taking you back to the times of the maharajas. But remember, this kind of bed looks best in a vast, open bedroom because they are quite large and usually dominate the room.
To complete the elegant look, drape your bed with silky bed sheets. But if you are not too sure about silk bed sheets, have cotton ones below the day sheets. These are the casual, low rise beds that give a sense of space to your rooms. You could choose this type of platform bed. These beds look great in both pinewood and a deep dark polished wood. You can team with a neutral coloured bedspread for a contrast and funky look. Throw a rug on the floor to complete the casual picture. This is great option if you have kids and you want them to share a bed, but you do not have too much space. Kids love sleeping on bunks. But make sure that the upper bunk has a railing that is high enough so your little angel doesn’t fall over and hurt himself/herself. These days the options are plenty when it comes to bunk beds like trains, sports cars, castles but kids have varying tastes and soon outgrow them. So if you don't want to change the bed too soon, stick to a simple design that will last longer.

You can even get them with storage at the bottom for all your linen. Now this one is my personal favourite. Four poster beds can impose a feeling of luxury in any bedroom. You can either add a frame on top and drape some lace sheets or if you don’t want any frame throw some baby net (which is also a great way to keep the mosquitoes out too.) to complete the look of the luxury. WHAT TYPES OF A BED FRAME: Types of frame your bed rests on are equally important. Here are some of the main types of frames: Metal frames are the most common types of frames, affordable and with many designs. They are used in traditional settings and sit on low wheels for easy movement. A box spring is required underneath the mattress to provide height and additional support. This kind of bed can be bought as a single or double bed and have attachments to headboards and footboards. These are best suitable for contemporary style bedroom. Mostly made of wood or wood-like material these types just hold a mattress with no storage boxes below.
These types of beds do not need a headboard. Wooden bed frames are more substantial in weight and may be more difficult to move around compared to platform and metal. They sit higher above the ground and can be used to add headboards or footboards to the frame. Normally wooden bed frames come with thin strips of wood called slats underneath the mattress and between the frames for support. As the name suggests these frames are mostly used in hospitals that allow people to raise or lower the foot and head of the bed to suit the patients’ needs. WHAT MATERIAL TO GO FOR: Most of our beds are made from natural wood like Timber or Teak which gives durability and a classy look but wooden beds are also available in manmade wood like MDF ply, HDF ply, compressed wood etc. These beds are more in trend as they are pocket friendly, lightweight and available in different shapes, sizes and designs.
Beds are also available in Brass or Iron; cheap but not as comfortable as a wooden bed. Bed size is a crucial factor when buying a bed. Some considerations that should be made when choosing the bed size are: the height of the sleeper, the size of the room, and the budget available. Here are some of the major bed sizes in the market. As the name suggests, this size is suitable only for one person. Perfect for bachelors and guest rooms. The dimensions for a typical single bed are 91(L) cm X 110(H) cm X 200(W). Double bed or full bed: A double bed may look like it is twice the size of the single bed but dimensionally it is not. It measures 200 cm x200 cm X200 cm. So it is just one and a half times larger than a single bed. It is good to buy for somebody who wants more sleeping space. Sheets and beddings are easier to find than queen or king size beds. However, the length of the double bed is standard length and not extra-long, so it is not suitable for tall people.
