Spring mattressesSpring mattresses offer great support, by distributing your body weight evenly. You won’t feel too warm either, as the open spring construction allows air to circulate. To find your perfect sleeping solution, choose a firm or medium firm mattress, paired with a slatted bed base or mattress base. Spring mattresses are very hardwearing, and a mattress topper will both enhance comfort and protect you mattress for years to come. Properly maintained, your Vispring bed will last a lifetime. Follow these simple steps to ensure it provides you with many years of faithful service. Do not bend or roll your mattress, since this will damage the spring unit and invalidate any warranties or guarantees. When moving house it should be well wrapped and kept flat and supported at all times. You may notice a slight scent from the natural materials your new mattress is made from. This “new” smell will disperse if your bed is well aired: this is as simple as keeping the climate stable in your bedroom and putting your bed linen to one side.

Your body may take a few weeks to adjust to sleeping on a new surface, so don’t worry if your new bed does not immediately meet your expectations. You can extend your Vispring mattress’s life by turning it occasionally. Click here to find out more. Your Vispring mattress is upholstered with pure natural materials which will settle over time to adapt to your body shape. Click here to find out more. Do not be concerned if your mattress appears shorter than its divan on delivery. Unlike inferior spring systems, Vispring pocketed springing is not constrained by rods, clips or glue and tends to contract in transit. Once in use, it will return to its correct size. The tufts on your mattress are applied to ensure that the upholstery remains firmly in place. They are designed to snap if put under undue strain, but can be easily replaced. Ensure that you always clean your bed the correct way.  Check regularly that the legs or castors of your divan are firmly tightened.

You should also check that the screws securing divan linking plates are tight and that headboard bolts are secure. Do not habitually sit on the edge of your bed, as this places undue strain on the edge springs and could break the border stitching. Do not allow children to jump up and down on the bed as the pocketed springs could be damaged. Never use your mattress in a plastic bag or with a plastic bag between the mattress and divan, since this can cause damage through condensation. Never use a Vispring mattress on a slatted base whose slats are spaced more than 6 cm apart (2.5”). We also recommend the use of a mattress pad on slatted bases to minimize abrasion. Never use a Vispring mattress on a worn-out divan or bed base. Doing so will shorten the life of your mattress and nullify your guarantee.NIIX pocket sprung mattress The NIIX pocket sprung mattress is composed of a central block of fine wire springs surrounded by adaptable material and filling that are sewn into individual fabric pockets to offer better sensitivity to weight and can better adapt to the various forms of the human body.

We try to cater for everybody's personal tastes and needs at Jones & Tomlin, whether your after a wooden, metal, leather, upholstered or even a luxury TV bed, the choice with Jones & Tomlin is vast with our product range constantly growing and being updated as fashion, and our customers tastes dictate Choosing a bed frame is probably the easiest of all purchases you can make as it's all about you and your personal taste.

The number one rule when buying any bed frame, be it wooden, metal, leather, upholstered: "you get what you pay for". In this short guide we will give you a few tips and tricks with browsing through the bed frames: Bed frames will allow a mattress of any specification to be used (including pocket sprung), with the added benefit of constant airflow, which allows the mattress to breathe, enhancing health benefits. Choosing a bed frame will generally widen the choice of mattresses available - (click here to view) All types of wood have distinctive grain structure. Woods like oak, ash and walnut have open pores in the form of small holes on their surface that give a distinct textural quality to bed frames. When the surface of the wood is stained, the colour tends to collect in the open pores and appear darker than the rest of the piece. There are other woods for example maple and cherry, which are tighter grained woods. These tend to have smooth texture and can take a stained or painted finish evenly accross the wood.

Environmental impact - Unlike metal beds, wooden bedsteads are very easy to recycle. A wooden frame left to the elements easily will decay over time, whereas a metal frame takes more effort and time to break down. Wooden bed frames can be easily recycled to create mulch for multiple uses, including chipboard, landscaping and children’s play areas. Revitalization - The beauty of wooden furniture is that it can be changed over time to give it a second, third or fourth life. By sanding, staining, or painting, you can refinish your bed frame to give it an entirely new look. Also, years down the line when you need to replace your bed, all you need to do is buy a new mattress. Here are some examples of the types of wood used in our bed frames and the benefits of each: Walnut is hard, dense, tight-grained and polishes to a very smooth finish. It resists shrinking and warping and can take all types of finishes very well. American black walnut is a soft to medium density wood, closed pored and a beautiful dark brown colour, with a purple overtone.

See our Saxony Walnut range for an example of this beautifully veneered wood, or the Frank Hudson Elegance bedframe, modern in design and featuring smooth curves in beautiful figured flame veneers and a deep rich polished finish Do you want to add style and sophistication to your bedroom? A metal bed frame (or metal bedstead) may be just what you are looking for to add that special touch of class or style to your boudoir. The bed is very often the focal point of your bedroom, therefore, what bed frame you choose is an important decision. The style of your bedstead will enhance the décor of your room and draw all of the elements of your bedroom together into that special atmosphere that you wish to create. Here are three reasons to choose metal when it comes to buying a bed frame: Leather bed frames are 100% natural, beautiful and long lasting As long as the gap between each slat is below 3 inches (and the vast majority, especially sprung slatted frames, will be) the virtues and benefits of pocket springs will not be affected.

Wear and tear on a mattress will be greater the wider the gaps. Most manufacturers make their own recommendations for slat spacing to suit their own Mattresses, so check these before buying as they do vary. The dimensions in our size guide refer to the sleeping area/mattress size of the bed. Bed frames in wood, metal or fabric will have an overall width and length greater than the sleeping area due to the nature of the beds construction, these dimensions are stated against the individual items. The good news is that all types of mattresses can be used on a frame, however, it is useful to bear in mind how your frame will look and feel if you were to combine a deep mattress on a base with a high foot-end. Be aware that some mattresses from the top-end of the market may require the use of a mattress-pad over the slats to protect the springs from moving out of place over a long period of time.
