From October 2009 Birth Club I've been trying to get LO (little one) to nap in her bassinet (we co sleep at night) but no matter if she's completely knocked out and if I warm a blanket for her its a no go. As soon as I set her down she starts rolling around like crazy like its uncomfortable. Maybe it is since I bought the hardest mattress for it I could find in trying to follow all of the "how to sleep your baby" rules. Our bed has a memory foam pillow top and I wonder if that's why she sleeps so well at night. Was thinking of getting something like that for the bassinet. i would agree... i have a medium hardness mattress in D's crib, but my bed is tempurpedic... this morning he was fussing so I picked him up fed him, changed his diaper, and brought him to bed with me... he fell asleep, and so did I, he slept until 11!!!!! so I think he liked my mattress. I'm considering getting a memory foam bed topper for his crib Our LO (little one) is a tummy sleeper and I noticed that his face gets pushed down too far when he sleeps in our tempurpedic so I would just be careful if you do any tummy time or tummy naps on it.

Otherwise, it's probably great for the LO's. My hubby is already set on buying LO (little one) a tempurpedic when he's old enough to have a bed... I could be wrong, as I do not personally have a memory foam mattress, but I was under the impression that it was completely forbidden to let babies sleep on memory foam mattresses, as there is a risk of suffocation? I agree about the memory foam and to be careful - who knows though? BUT one thing we do to soften up the hard as a rock crib mattress is to put a thick blanket/comforter (you know, the kind you hang on the side of the crib to look pretty) - or folded/doubled up blanket UNDER the crib sheet.  It adds softness and the squishy feel to it for LO.  The key is to make it thick, then add it under the sheet.  It seems to add just enough softness without allowing the babies head to get buried in it. "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last." - Winston Churchill There is an increased risk because unlike a harder mattress, a baby has a hard time lifting their head off something that "gives" like a pillow top/memory foam.

So if they turn into it, even if they have good head control, they would have a much harder time turning out. I'm not sure if babies so much prefer a softer mattress as they do our scent, closeness, breathing, etc. Like I think my daughter would happily sleep on the floor as long as I was with her lol. So maybe try mimicing those things to see if they work first? - RachelLoving our autumn ('09) and winter ('12) girls. Blog and crocheted hats on Etsy Oh I think they do sell mattress toppers for baby cribs though. I read something about it in Pantley's book. She recommended against quilts or thick blankets as they can bunch up or be too squishy, but she said that they do sell something that you can put over a mattress and under baby's sheet. Not sure what it was called though :( I agree with Rachel about the scent, etc...if you put one of LO's blankets in bed with you one night so it has your scent and then maybe lay it in her bassinet with her on/near it? I would be nervous about the memory foam for the reasons above...

I'm always on alert when LO (little one) is in our bed that he doesn't roll over and bury his face in the mattress. My baby always slept for the most part in her cradle but really slept well in our bed that has a memory foam mattress. I went to Kohl's and got a 1.5 inch thick twin size memory foam topper and cut it to the size of her cradle mattress. I put it on top of the cradle mattress and then put the sheet over both of them. She loves it and sleeps so well, sometimes 9 or 10 hours a night! Always on her back, though. It would be way too soft for her to tummy sleep, and I wouldn't let her sleep like that anyway at night when we are sleeping too. I do let her tummy sleep on the couch during the day for naps when I am able to check on her frequently.
