Once you latch the door, you should not be able to slide the door back and forth more than 1/8 inch. When locking the sliding door, the latch should catch the lock-strike in the jamb without effort.

If the movement of your locked sliding door appears excessive or you have difficulty placing the latch in the locked position, adjusting the latch will help. Open your Pella sliding door to access the latch mechanism along the edge of the door. Rotate the lever on the inside of your door to the “Locked” position. This exposes the latch along the door edge. Find the adjustment screw above the exposed latch. Use a flat-head screwdriver to rotate the screw counterclockwise to tighten the latch and clockwise to loosen it.
