307 posts, read 701,204 times Since you all have been so helpful in the past, I'll post another question I have a sliding glass patio door 95" wide x 80" high. One half is fixed glass the other is the sliding door. I want to add a window treatment to this, but vertical blinds are out. I don't like 'em. I would like something not "Grandma" but current with what is in style for today. I'm thinking of installing a nice solid curtain rod with one-piece full length flat shear. I don't need complete privacy. Just something to block the sun during the summer months. Affordable and nice is the key here. I do not want a custom rod with a pull chord that moves the shear along a track. I'm thinking just a hanging stick at one end to push and pull the shear. Like you see in hotels. Also, any ideas where I can purchase such animal? 4,853 posts, read 12,277,748 times Will you cat be kind to said window treatment? My co-workers cats aren't kind to hers.

Would a sheer covering be enough coverage to keep heat out? I've never used sheers, so I'm not sure of their functionality for heat blocking. If verticals are out, then what about a solid curtain panel with grommets at the top? I think you could somehow install a wand to push them back in the morning then pull them back when the sun gets intense. 2,179 posts, read 2,701,393 times 8,947 posts, read 7,938,234 times I had two such sliders in my old house. I put up simple curtains with clip on rings on rods, one panel to a side. There was just enough curtain to completely cover the window when I pulled them together. I opened them in the morning. Actually one set was never closed; we had no privacy issues. I learned that I like to hang curtains as high as possible. A little puddle at the bottom is OK too. You can buy longer curtain panels than you used to be able to. If you hang them high, your ceiling looks higher. Valances and such look dated to me. I like a nice substantial rod, with matching rings, and a high hung curtain.

They don't have as many taller panels though. For style inspirations, and actual curtains, be sure to check out the Pottery Barn offerings. I bought some lovely linen curtains there last year. 20,134 posts, read 44,361,524 times Originally Posted by mandK Change out the whole thing for a (hinged) French Door... with fixed glass ("light") on one or both sides of that.
