Lovely hotel with great and helpful staff, the room we were allocated however was well below my expectations all views from windows looked onto brick walls, room was split into dressing area and sleeping area half of which had no heating room overall very cold.the champagne and cocktail bar was nothing to write home about but the over inflated prices certainly were. 3,550 reviews sorted by: We had a wonderful time at the hotel. Special thanks to Nicholas Cousins who left us a lovely welcome card along with 2 free drinks vouchers. This was much appreciated and made us feel very special. All of the staff were very professional and extremely friendly . Stayed here on Friday night for my husbands birthday, and have got to say it's the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in! The room was stunning and very large, with everything we needed from tea/coff facilities, wine glasses, hairdryer; flat screen TV and beautifully decorated! On sat morning breakfast was on until 11, and there was everything you could ever want from cereal to contanental to full cooked English with tea/ coffee and juice.

Would defo recommend this hotel as it was much nicer than th Hulton where we usually stay! We will defo be back soon. if you are looking to take your Mum for a nice afternoon tea as Mothers day is coming up shortly I have just taken mine to the grand central hotel and I could not say how much we both enjoyed it firstly value for money I would give it 10/10 everything was freshly made the staff could not have been more helpful and cheery on a grey wet Glasgow day! the seating was especially comfortable( chairs like those big parker knoll winged chairs if you wanted ) and to finish off your day a nice glass of fizzing prosecco ! my Mum was made to feel very special even though we werent celebrating anything in particular and the best thing you werent rushed out the door on finishing, we had so much put on on our table we couldnt finish it and our waitress suggested putting it in a little box to take home hows that for hospitality we will definitely go back , the surroundings in the hotel are very grand yes it has had a refurbishment but they have kept a lot of the original features my Mum could recall a lot about them as we are born and bred Glaswegians .but had never been in this particular hotel for afternoon tea but any future celebrations I know were we will be going .hope this is helpful for anyone wishing to while away an afternoon in grand splendour.

Room Tip: didnt stayBecomes very expensive as the week goes on. Parking is not easy. All in all though nice place and a great bar. If you stay on floor 5 be warned that it gets very hot up there in the summer. Stayed here on Thursday 9th February was greeted by a pleasant man we believe his name was Jamie. Room very spacious and clean, loved the toiletries supplied along with having access to a hairdryer and iron. Great hotel with comfortable spacious rooms, perfect for an overnight stay if you're out in Glasgow! The only fault I have for this is the noise from the speaker in Central Station which is joined on to the hotel Room Tip: Quiter floor/room Fife Ice Arena (originally known as Kirkcaldy Ice Rink) opened in 1938. Kirkcaldy Ice Rink was designed by architects Williamson & Hubbard. Fife Ice Arena is the home venue of the oldest Ice Hockey team in the UK - the Fife Flyers. It is also a venue for public skating, figure skating, speed skating, curling and ice shows.

The arena has also hosted concerts, boxing, wrestling, motorcycle ice speedway and other events such as dog shows. The Fife Free Press dated February 2, 1938, announced 30,000 ordinary shares at 1d each in a proposed new rink in the town—25,000 shares were offered for subscription. On February 17, plans to build the rink in the Gallatown were presented to, and approved by, Kirkcaldy Dean of Guilds Court. The one-storey building contained seating for 4,500 and would cost £37,000 to construct. To put that figure into context the town's fire station, also opened that year, cost £15,000. The building was to have a carcass of steel stanchions and a roof span of 145 feet without any supporting pillars except those at the extremities, making it the widest construction of its kind in Scotland at the time. The rink's ground level would consist of an entrance hall, general office, booking office, confectioners and tobacconist, cloakroom with provision for a large restaurant, and a milk bar.

Facilities also included dressing rooms with spray baths, while immediately above the entrance was the boardroom, bandstand and manager's office. The plans also had a touch of class—the restaurant featured Parker-Knoll chairs, curtains designed by Dame Laura Knight, as well as monogrammed cutlery. Much of the work was carried out by local tradesmen, including plumber James Blyth, while the original sound system came from E. Donaldson of Kirk Wynd. The builder was James Ramsay of Leslie, while joiner D. Mitchell & Sons, also of Leslie, worked on the roof. Fife Ice Arena (FIA) is located on Rosslyn Street in the North East area of Kirkcaldy known as Gallatown. FIA is approximately 1 mile from the A92, 2 miles from the railway station and town centre. Other than league ice hockey, skating and curling, other notable events have occurred at Fife Ice Arena over the years. Some of these include, but are not limited to: A number of players with NHL experience have played for Fife Flyers and other British ice hockey teams.
