I have found through my experiences with the paranormal and trying to hack life, that there are virtual rules in place that prevent one from exploiting parts of reality, such as generating useful information from, say immoral means (you can't do meaningful science if you're violating the rules too much).Let's call this force, the force of order. Going against this force of order, I find, tends to make the mind "go crazy". So this force doesn't just work externally, it also works on our individual consciousnesses, our brains.
The more stress we experience, the more aberrant our thoughts, and the more "free" or exploitative our behaviour, the more likely we are to go against this force and generate chaos in the mind. This is not a bad thing in moderation. It keeps things from getting too rigid. But too much and you start having to face naked material reality, which can get ugly. Basically, staying connected to the force of order essentially means staying connected to something "higher", something that keeps us relatively safe and stable, mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually.
