OnePlus 5
The past year has seen a bunch of new brand names pop up in the
smartphone arena. While most incumbents like HTC, Sony seem to be having
trouble making a profit in the increasingly aggressive smartphone
business, there are a bunch of startups that think
they can do one better.
OnePlus is expected to launch its next flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 5
sometime in June. The company revealed its plan about the device for
its summer launch. The device has been leaked so many times in the past
and we have learnt much about the expected specifications and features
of the upcoming OnePlus 5.
The upcoming OnePlus 5 is likely to
resemble with its predecessor OnePlus 3T in terms of design. However, it
will come with subtle changes and refinements for sure. The possible
design changes on the device could be on its rear panel where the
antenna lines could get repositioned. By doing so, the device will get a
seamless and fresh look. Up front, there will be minimum screen bezels.
Moreover,
the OnePlus 5 is believed to come in multiple interesting colours.
OnePlus has teased the upcoming flagship in as many as four colours
earlier this week. The OnePlus 5 is expected to come in Black, Gold,
Cherry Red, and an all new colour model inspired from Unicorn.
The
OnePlus 5 is likely to continue the 5.5-inch screen size similar to its
predecessor; however, the display resolution information is yet to be
known. To recall, the OnePlus 3/3T offers a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920
pixels) AMOLED display. The company calls its display as an Optic AMOLED
display which is said to be competent to produce the colours which are
more vivid and realistic than the regular AMOLED displays. The Optic
AMOLED is also said to be efficient on the battery life. The company
might release a 1080p full-HD display smartphone, although, there is a
possibility for a Quad-HD.
On the specifications, the OnePlus 5
is expected to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC along with 6GB of RAM
and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. Moreover, there are rumours
about the 8GB RAM variant of OnePlus 5. The connectivity option on the
device will include dual-SIM card support, 4G LTE, USB Type-C port, and
NFC. Up front, there will be a fingerprint sensor like its predecessor
and the device will also have a headphone jack.
OnePlus 5 enables you to use gestures for activating different parts
of the phone. Like, a double tap wakes the device, V motion activates
the LED flashlight and using 2 fingers you can turn on the music.
Another bigger
change on the upcoming OnePlus mobile is the camera offering. The device
is likely to come with a dual rear camera module. The company is
expected to be working with DxOMark which is a camera benchmarking site.
Furthermore, there are rumoured about the presence of dual camera setup
on the front. The handset will likely to run on the latest Android
Nougat OS powered by company's own OxygenOS software.
When had a look at its specifications, it seems that the device has a
lot to offer, mostly the appeal lies in its hardware, no doubt for this.
There is no
information about the battery specifications of the upcoming mobile;
however, the OnePlus 5 is believed to offer a modified version of Dash
Charging. The new version is expected to charge the device faster than
the existing models. Considering the added features and improved
specifications, the price of OnePlus 5 could be higher than its
predecessor.
Competitors
OnePlus 5 definitely excels to live up its
reputation of being a flagship killer. It can give a serious competition
to the existing players in the market like Samsung Galaxy Note 4, HTC
One M8, Sony Xperia Z and Moto G2.
OnePlus 5 is not quite
inexpensive as it has elegant looks and performs well. It is hard to
believe that it is a first generation smartphone. It surely outperforms
Nexus 5 in almost every way.
