Daniel White's parents, Lynette Nolan and Cary White, say he was strapped to his chair at Hervey Bay Special School with a seat belt. "We were annoyed, very annoyed, that they could tie Daniel down and not let him walk around," she said."Cary contacted the principal over it and she was trying to deny it even happened. "(But) we saw it with our own eyes."Daniel suffers from Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a rare type of epilepsy that leaves him with severe speech and learning impairments. HBSS principal Jo McCracken referred Fairfax Media questions to the Department of Education and Training, which refused to comment on individual cases.A contractor at the school, who didn't want to be named, confirmed he had seen Daniel strapped to his chair on one occasion and was aware of several other times students had been forcefully restrained. The "cell-like" room at Kawungan State School where Tate Smith was placed. The allegations came a day after shocking revelations a different Hervey Bay school was locking an autistic boy in a small "time out" room when he misbehaved.

There's no suggestion the complaints are linked.Education Minister Kate Jones on Wednesday labelled Kawungan State School's practice of locking up nine-year-old autistic boy Tate Smith in a small two-metre by two-metre room "completely unacceptable"."As soon as the department became aware, the school was ordered to close the room. That matter is being investigated," she said in Parliament. The department assured parents the room, where Tate was reportedly locked alone up to 20 times, was being dismantled. The revelations prompted Daniel's parents to come forward with their own complaints about Hervey Bay Special School, which borders Kawungan."I think the principal needs to be gone from that school," Ms Nolan said."She treats the kids like they're mainstream kids when she knows they have a disability."Children with Disability Australia CEO Stephanie Gotlib, whose organisation referred Tate Smith's case to the education department on Monday, said Daniel's treatment was unacceptable."Would it be acceptable for a child without disabilities?" she said."

Why in Australia are we saying that the unacceptable is acceptable for children with disabilities?"His parents have since pulled him from HBSS to homeschool him since the start of this year.Ms Gotlib said she was aware of similar issues relating to treatment of children with disabilities at other Queensland schools but the Hervey Bay complaints were at the "extreme" end of the spectrum.News of Tate Smith's treatment came a month after images emerged of a cage an autistic child was placed in at a Canberra school.A Department of Education and Training spokesman said the investigation into Tate Smith's treatment at Kawungan had been referred to the department's Ethical Standards Unit.Big spaces, soaring ceilings and flexible, people-friendly facilities – what more could you ask for in an investment property? Take a pew and find out whether one could be the answer to your property prayers. Calvary Baptist Church is relocating and its current space is for sale. The property is 2023 square metres and includes a four-bedroom house upstairs. There’s no mistaking the heritage of this building in Glandore, a suburb of Adelaide. It has undergone a complete internal renovation to suit its tenant, a business that provides short-term and student accommodation, but retains traditional features such as leadlight windows, soaring timber ceilings and a grand staircase. Described as a “stairway to heaven” by agent Knight Frank Townsville, this property is still operating as a church through current tenant The Potters House Christian Fellowship. Its quaint arches and white render make it a recognisable landmark on the fringe of the Townsville CBD. The spaces within are just as grand as the architecture of this building, now used as a studio and gallery. It also includes a 367-square-metre residence – we counted 12 possible bedrooms – as well as some heavenly gardens on its 2667-square-metre site in the Adelaide suburb of Alberton.

Fans of mid-century architecture will appreciate the concrete block construction and simple lines of this functioning church on a short-term lease in the Townsville suburb of Vincent. The land area is 1206 square metres and the building is 210 square metres. The former St Giles Church dates back to 1861 and was designed by noted architect Nathaniel Billing as part of a competition, according to the Heritage Council Victoria. Within the gothic building is a contemporary three-level conversion that houses a beauty therapy business. This distinctive building about 80 kilometres west of Brisbane has a tiled pool for baptisms as well as hardwood floors and cushioned pews. The 3036-square-metre property comprises three lots, divided into the church hall, function hall and car park. This old church eight kilometres from the Adelaide CBD is vacant and ready for a new owner with residential development in mind. The neat-as-a-pin building is on 958 square metres of land with a 24-metre frontage to Captain Cook Avenue.
