Not as "universal" as I had hoped|Better than the original|No longer got that sinking feeling|Make sure you can remove your current cylinder before ordering|Works as advertised but contrary to other reviews here, I could not remove my old one from my chair top -- there was no way to hammer the old one out, as the top part of the cylinder is not fully exposed (see photo), and no attempts to pry the cylinder worked for me. I tried gloves and various other ways.I ended up having to purchase a new tilt mechanism too: Replacement Office Chair Tilt Control Mechanism - S2979 (this was fit my chair, and the total was still cheaper than a new chair, but might not work for you). I also was unable to remove the plastic cover from the old cylinder, so now the top of mine is exposed -- not a big deal for me.So my advice: Be sure you can remove your current cylinder before you order a new one.
