It is now flaking and peeling where there is most use. Underneath is a soft fabric. So, what I assume now, is that a technique of spray painting a soft leather look on an under fabric was used on this new recliner. It was not very expensive, in the $400 range, (that should have been a clue). It is in perfectly good working order, is comfortable, I like the look and it is a good fit in my space. How do I go about brushing off the peeling parts and respraying a leather look on my recliner? By Betty T. Answer By Frances Adams Flag0I would just either make a cover for it, or use an old bedspread, or one from a garage sale that you like. You can either throw it over the chair, or make it more fitted by using rubber bands or hair elastics to gather the fabric at the corners under the legs, to keep it from always sliding off.

Reply By Marjorie Flag0I found the following information on the ehow website of how to repair a dashboard in a vehicle that is peeling and cracking. and order a cover especially for recliners. They come in different colors. and order a recliner slipcover! I just bought one from there for my leather recliner as it's too hot in summer. They fit very well and are easy to take off to wash. They have many styles and color choices. Reply Question: 0 FlagI have a soft vinyl recliner and I have worn the edges down to the cloth and almost to the wood on my foot rest in a couple areas about 3 inches by 4 inches long from my feet there all the time. I just want to find a soft vinyl repair tape that I can use to reinforce and keep it from spreading, not to mention the appearance. It is somewhere between a medium and dark chocolate brown. How and where could I possibly purchase this tape without a big price tag on it? I live in Sun City Arizona and I'm on a very restricted budget. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Related ContentBy Barb M Answer By Joan Flag0They make duck/duct tape in all kinds of colors now. Stores like WalMart handle it. Reply By Joan Flag0Also I have a catalog that has a washable fleece recliner cover. It is four pieces: Two arrmrest covers, a footrest cover, and a cover for the body of the chair, for $19.99. The body cover has elastic straps to hold it in place and my guess is that the footrest cover has elastic all the way around. Reply By susan Flag0Maybe you could make a cover for the footrest from an old terrycloth towel. Reply Question: By Kathy0 FlagWe have a vinyl bean bag that has a couple of tears in it thanks to a new puppy. I have taped over the holes with duct tape but the tape keeps coming off around the edges and it looks really ugly. Does anyone know how I can repair a hole in vinyl?Kathy from Parker, CO Answer By LEONA LABINE Flag0What about an iron patch, the kind used to patch clothes. I would apply it to the inside of the vinyl. Turn the bag inside out and cut the patch @ 2" bigger than the tear, make sure the spot to be patched is nice and flat.

Put a dish cloth over the patch and press with a medium hot iron. You could keep the duct tape on the outside it will help to keep the tear flat and remove after the patch has cooled. Reply By Betty Flag0You can purchase different colors of tape or use clear. Your problem with the corners coming up is that it should be cut with rounded corners. Reply By Cindy Strouse Flag0I recovered my bean bags by cutting pieces a little larger than those on the chair and sewing them together. I made a hem at the botton and threaded a piece of nylon rope through the hem to use as a draw-string. I used a fur material; anything with some strength to it would work. That way I didn't have patched chairs but "brand new"! Reply By Mary Lou Flag0I would get one of those repair kits that are used for air mattresses and try that. Reply By lisa Hegewald Flag0You should be able to get a vinyl repair kit at your auto supply store. It is used to repair vinyl seats and roofs (like when the garage door opener falls off the ceiling and scratches the vinyl roof of the car - could only happen to me :o) Reply Question: 0 FlagHow can I repair a tear in vinyl upholstery?

It is mostly along a seam at the edge of a cushion. The cushion is not removable, so it can't be taken off to be repaired or sewn. By RocknChr Answer By Joan Flag0Google how to do a baseball stitch. The neat thing with this stitch is you can gently draw the material back together. You will likely need a curved needle which can be quite awkward at first. Practise the stitch one something similar. The thread goes in an over and under pattern and you'll want to keep the stitches about 1/4" away from the rip so that it doesn't tear again.
