The College of Education at Northern Illinois University invites applications and nominations for the position of theLD and Ruth G. Morgridge Endowed Chair in Teacher Education to begin in Fall 2017. We are seeking an innovative scholar and transformational leader with a national reputation in educator preparation who is actively engaged in scholarship and approaches the study of teacher education from a multidisciplinary perspective. This person will create a vision for advancing educator preparation and advocate for teacher education research, practice, and innovation for the College of Education and advance these efforts at the university, local, state and national levels. The ideal candidate is a documented champion for educator preparation who has specific experience bringing together teams of faculty, staff, students, and community partners to examine and take action on key issues, challenges, and opportunities. The successful candidate will have the ability to create critical questions that frame the collaborative initiatives of a research center which will focus on innovation in teacher education.




An earned doctorate in an area related to teacher education A strong record of scholarship that would enable the individual to meet requirements for tenure and appointment at the rank of full professor in one of the College’s academic departments National recognition as a scholar of teacher education. Successful record of securing external funding including federal research grants and other large grants as demonstrated by success with Federal research grant activity Evidence of command of pressing policy issues affecting educator preparation A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to diversity The ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of audiences Evidence of leadership experience in teacher education Evidence of teaching effectiveness Evidence of expertise as a mentor, facilitator, and convener of diverse groups Experience developing a research cluster or center It is anticipated that the appointment will be at the rank of Professor with tenure;




salary will be competitive and commensurate with that expected by an endowed chair with national prominence.  The endowment provides additional support for professional activities (e.g. clerical assistance, research assistants, travel, and materials). The LD and Ruth G. Morgridge Endowed Chair is a crucial part of the College of Education and its future.  The chair emphasizes innovation and advancement in teacher education and honors the career and legacy of the donor’s parents.  In May 1995, former chair of the board of Cisco Systems, John P. Northern Illinois University, located in DeKalb, 65 miles west of Chicago, is a research extensive university enrolling 20,000 students in baccalaureate, masters and doctoral programs in seven colleges.  The College of Education enrolls over 2,500 students in six departments (Counseling, Adult and Higher Education; Educational Technology, Research and Assessment; Kinesiology and Physical Education; Leadership, Educational Psychology and Foundations; Literacy and Elementary Education; Special and Early Education).  The College offers eight baccalaureate degrees, 15 master’s degrees, one specialist degree, and six doctoral degrees.  Programming is offered on-campus as well as at the university’s three outreach centers in Hoffman Estates, Naperville, and Rockford and at approximately 20 other off-campus locations in the northern Illinois region.
