Even the most well made chairs experience problems and breakdowns with regular use, including missing arms, dull leather, and sticky wheels. However, users can resolve these issues by following a few simple steps. Thanks to the easy availability of these repair components at hardware stores or online on eBay, users of all skill levels can complete the repairs in a matter of minutes. Before starting the repair, invert the chair and place it on a sheet or plastic sheeting face down for easy access to the arms and wheels. Also, arrange all of the repair components nearby in order of intended use to speed up the repair process. Before beginning any repair on the chair, take a few moments to inspect it, paying careful attention to the arms, seat, and wheel areas. For maximum efficiency, and to save time later, repair all affected areas at one time instead of a bit now and a bit later. To ensure a safe and pleasing repair outcome, gather together office chair repair tools and materials to make the process go as smoothly as possible.

One of the most convenient parts on an office chair, the chair arms allow users to comfortably rest their arms when using the chair and work as handles to help people sit and stand. With frequent use, the screws holding the arms on can begin to warp or break, necessitating repair for continued comfortable use. To begin, unscrew the fasteners and remove the arms, placing them to the side for disposal. To attach the new parts, hold one arm in place and, using the opposite hand, screw the fastener in a clockwise motion back into place. Repeat with the other side and test for excess wiggling.

If present, repeat the tightening one turn at the time, taking care not to over-tighten and strip the screws. A quick and simple way to take care of immobile or sticky wheels is using a convenient spray lubricant. With the wheels facing the ceiling, give each one a squirt or two of WD-40 or other comparable product and manually roll the wheels around to distribute the substance. This gets the product deep down into the wheel and lessens the effects of rusted or debris-laden wheels. After allowing the product to dry for approximately 30 to 45 minutes, resume normal use. Taking a few minutes to apply leather revitalisation products to the seat and back area of the chair makes the seat softer, look better, and last longer. To begin, apply a small amount of the conditioning leather cleaner on a sponge or a clean, lint-free cloth and work it into the leather, taking care to cover the seat from the bottom to top. After letting the substance work for 20 to 30 minutes, buff off with a cloth and finish with protective spray, if desired.
