DUVET FILLINGSDown and feather filled duvets have exceptional warmth, efficiency and are naturally breathable, with exquisite drape. The quality of natural fillings available on the market can vary greatly, and not all have been tested to meet their claims. See how Nimbus assures the quality of all products by visiting Our Story.DOWNDown comes from the breast of a waterfowl (in this case duck or goose) and is very fine, light and exceptionally fluffy, helping to keep the bird warm and protect it against the elements. Duvets filled with a high percentage of down are regarded as the ultimate in luxury. This is because, unlike feathers, down is three dimensional and does not contain quills and thus are extremely soft, cushioning and light. Down-filled duvets are wonderfully lofty – meaning they trap more air for greater breathability and warmth insulation – creating a far lighter duvet that offers unrivalled warmth. Our A1 grade down used in our Nimbus Emporium Gold and Nimbus Emporium Silver Collections is the highest quality down available, and internationally recognised as the best on the market.

FEATHERFeathers are the more sturdy plumage found on the outside of a waterfowl. They are two dimensional with a curved shape, and their size can greatly vary. Feathers contain a central quill, which adds greater weight to the duvet, so are ideal for those who prefer a heavier, more tucked in feel whilst in bed.GOOSE vs DUCK – WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?The primary difference between goose & duck fillings is that geese are larger in size, thus producing larger clusters of down.  The down and feather produced by geese thus have greater volume and insulating properties than duck, due to their size.DARK TIPS IN WHITE FILLINGSMost birds have some darker feathers or down in their plumage. Some mixing of white and darker feathers and down can occur on the farm and in processing plants when they are collected and washed. British and European standards therefore allow a small percentage of darker fillings in a ‘white’ filled product, as they agree it is a factor of processing. It can often symbolise a sign of quality too, as it means the filling has not been bleached – a common practice in the marketplace whereby dark feathers are bleached and processed to appear white, often at detriment to their longevity and quality.

TOGSA duvet’s tog rating is a measurement of the amount of warmth the duvet offers. Therefore the higher the tog, the warmer the duvet. Our selection of natural duvets includes everything from 4.5 tog options, which are ideal for summer use to provide comfort without overheating, to 10.5 togs which are great for use in the Autumn & Winter. If you love being extra snug and cosy at night, we offer sumptuous 13.5 tog duvets that are ideal for snuggling in to on cold winter nights. If you’re still not sure which tog is best for you, it might be worth investing in our Four Seasons option. This consists of a 4.5 tog duvet and a 9.0 tog duvet, which can be used separately or buttoned together as required to create a warmer 13.5 tog duvet – essentially providing three different tog options in one! This gives you flexiblity and allows you to change your tog depending on the weather for maxmium comfort and the best night’s sleep. Here’s a helpful chart to help you determine how to select the right tog for you.

DUVET CONSTRUCTIONThe ‘boxed’ or ‘pocketed’ construction in the majority of our duvets ensures there are no cold spots and that fillings remain in place. Each ‘box’ – made up of hidden walls inside the duvet – is individually filled, ensuring the filling does not spill out and is evenly spread, night after night. We combine this traditional construction in our duvets with timelessly classic invisible stitching techniques, to ensure a truly flawless finish. In lower togs, such as our 4.5 tog options, invisible stitchign isn’t featured as we use a stitch-through technique, to ensure even filling distribution.FINISHING & DUVET SIZE GUIDEWe only use the highest quality cotton covers throughout our ranges, as we believe quality cotton offers the greatest luxury and benefits to our customers. Each cover is tightly woven to ensure dustmites cannot enter the product and feather and down cannot escape; but also to ensure it has a soft, rich feel, and that it lasts longer and is more durable.
