1. *NAVRATRI* begins today on October 15 with Shailputri (one of the nine forms of the goddess) puja and ends on October 24 with Durga Visarjan and Dussehra celebrations


*NAVRATRI* : Navratri is an auspicious Hindu observance for nine days that is dedicated to Goddess Durga. During this time, devotees worship the nine different forms of Goddess Shakti. Navratri begins on ‘Pratipada’ (1st day) during the ‘Shukla Paksha’ (the waxing phase of moon) and continues till the ‘Navami’ (9th day) of the Hindu month of ‘Ashwin’. The celebrations of Navratri are observed with great zeal and dedication in all parts of the country.

8. India’s ambitious Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) project, at a cost of Rs 51,000 crore, has reached a significant milestone. This development comes after a successful trial run of the first freight train over the 401-kilometer-long New Sahnewal (Punjab) to New Khurja (Uttar Pradesh) section of the EDFC. The entire 1337-kilometer EDFC is now declared operational. 


9. The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Hmar People’s Conference (HPC) Party (Reformation) have decided to work together for the success of the MNF candidates in the forthcoming election due in November. 


10. HARYANA CM Manohar Lal said that classrooms of the state's Government Model Culture Primary Schools will be converted into smart classrooms by the end of 2023. He said that out of 7,400 of these schools, 4,035 smart classrooms have already been made and the remaining will be completed soon.


11. The Meteorological Department yellow alert issued in seven districts of Kerala. They are Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki - on yellow alert.


12. UNESCO World Heritage Site Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR), famous for its one-horned rhino, is reopening after monsoon season, on October 15, to give an all-new wholesome tourism experience to visitors.


13. In MAHARASHTRA: An activist Monoj Jarange, who has brought back the Maratha quota issue to the centre stage in Maharashtra, on Saturday threatened to intensify his agitation after October 24 if the government fails to provide reservation to the community in jobs and education.

1. CBI conducted raids in various parts of West Bengal on allegations of passport forgery Saturday. Apart from Kolkata's Ruby, Salt Lake, CBI's search operation has also started in Howrah. 


2. The Women and Juvenile Crime Prevention Wing of the Maharashtra Police Department has informed that 68.93 per cent of the kidnapped girls and 63.10 per cent of the missing women have been recovered this year till May 2023.


3. Punjab Police claimed to have busted a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror module and thwarted a possible terrorist attack in the border state.


The operation was conducted by the Punjab Police’s State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in collaboration with central agencies. The police also recovered from their possession two IEDs, as many hand grenades, one .30 bore pistol with two magazines, 24 cartridges. 


4. The Delhi Director General (Prisons) has submitted a proposal on conjugal visitation rights of prisoners to the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government for its consideration, the Delhi High Court has been told.

Sagar Maitri is a novel initiative of DRDO that supports the broad objective of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s policy declaration ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)’ to promote closer cooperation in socio-economic aspects as well as more significant scientific interaction, especially in ocean research among Indian Ocean Rim (IOR) countries.

1. *OPERATION AJAY* , The second flight carrying 235 Indian nationals from Tel Aviv, Israel reached Delhi airport under 'Operation Ajay' on Saturday, the returning Indian citizens expressed their gratitude and thanked the Indian government. 


2. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will co-chair the 18th meeting of the India-Vietnam Joint Commission on Economic, Trade, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation with his Vietnamese counterpart as will visit 🇻🇳Vietnam from 15 Oct to 20 Oct. 


3. Indian company ImmunoACT, backed by drug maker Laurus Labs, has received approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) for its CAR-T cell therapy NexCAR19. The therapy is the first of its kind to be developed in India and will be used to treat certain types of blood cancers. ImmunoACT intends to make the drug available to partner hospitals as soon as possible. 


NexCAR19 is an indigenously developed CD19-targeted CAR-T cell therapy. It is the first-of-its-kind, made-in-India product and is a major stride in advanced cell-and-gene therapies. NexCAR19 is the culmination of a collaborative effort across a decade, between the IIT- Bombay, and Tata Memorial Centre (TMC).


4. The launch of passenger ferry service between Tamil Nadu's Nagapattinam and Sri Lanka's Kankesanthurai is "truly a big step" for people-to-people contacts between India and Sri Lanka, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said. 


5. G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit, P20 concluded in New Delhi on Saturday. India handed over the P20 Presidency to the Parliament of Brazil after successfully concluding the Ninth P20 Presidency.

1. Two crucial polls opened in the Oceania region on Saturday (October 14) in which Australians began voting on a referendum for Indigenous rights. 


(a) Australia decisively rejected a proposal to recognise Indigenous people in the constitution on Saturday. Australians had to vote in the referendum, on the question of whether to alter the constitution to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people through the creation of an Indigenous advisory body, the "Voice to Parliament".


(b) Australians had to vote "Yes" or "No" in the referendum, the first in almost a quarter of a century, on the question of whether to alter the constitution to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people through the creation of an Indigenous advisory body, the "Voice to Parliament".

He also played a pivotal organisational, technical, and political role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, the first since the original nuclear test by India in 1974.Kalam was elected as the 11th President of India in 2002 with the support of both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the then-opposition Indian National Congress.


He was Widely referred to as the "People's President",
