My wife and I took a long weekend (5 days) and went to Cancun for the first time. On the advice of the agent and a friend we chose the Royalton Riviera. Food and accommodations were excellent. We enjoyed the shows and the evening activities, though I could understand if your interest is dancing and clubbing (not ours) the offerings are limited. The only thing I would change is the hard sell to join their vacation club. Can you say time share? This became old very quickly and I did have to put my foot down on day 2 and tell them to stop bothering us. Other than that we liked it very much and would recommend this resort. Hopefully this review will help people make a decision to the endless amount of resorts in this area.
This resort was a great experience for us. Our stay was 4 full days and was from December 18th to the 23rd. The transportation that was arranged from Cheap Caribbean was there, friendly, and easy to find even though our flight was slightly delayed. Once we got to the resort we knew it was going to be a good time. Everybody was so friendly, the entertainment was good, there were many different pool options. The beach was well maintained with some seaweed but it might just be the time of the year. Our room was just ok. I wouldn't say it was anything too special for a luxury resort but for the price we paid and all of the stuff outside the room it was definitly enough. This resort was family friendly which as honey-mooners doesn't normally sound that great. However, we were in the "hidden away" section which had its own pool, restaraunt, building for the rooms and bars. You had the option to be around the kids or not which was nice. Booking the excursions was also pretty easy and transportation was seamless.
Overall, it was great and would go back again! The employees at resort show favoritism toward different visitors at hotel. My wife wasn't allow in one restaurant (Marche Buffet 10/15/16) due to cover up but a female in a more revealing cover was greeted entrance. The funny thing is that my wife wore the same cover up for breakfast and was allowed in the same restaurant that very morning . Overall the resort was nice but in this day and age equality should be for everyone and that was a clear sign that it's not. Resort itself is amazing but discretion is not equally valued . Hotel host Arely has no customer service skills, asked my wife to go change then once we came back she asked "why did you change " . Very confusing and unsettling . Watch out for little step-downs everywhere. I fell the first night there, flat on my face because I missed a step. The lifeguard came right away. I didn't get to go on any excursions or do much else. Plenty of restaurants and the options for meals and drinks was above average, the wait staff were excellent.
I don't care for all the workers trying to pester you into buying their time share, but you always have that at these stereotype of resorts. I made a few friends and I would go back. The pool party with foam and balloons was unique and the kiddie pools were a blast for the kiddos.
