MASTERCRAFT doors are garbage! About five years ago my wife and I had an addition put onto our home. The builder used a MasterCraft exterior door for the entrance. It is wooden with a metal clad four panel and two lite. The lites have both completely seperated from the door allowing cold, heat, bees and any other possible invader to enter our home. I'm looking for a way to repair the door as I can't afford to replace it due to finances. If you have any ideas please share them with me. Disgusted esp if it's American-made. All 5 of our BRAND NEW mastercrap french doors leaked (seals broke on the inside)...so horribly... rain ran down into the drywall & foundation. We HATE mastercraft products. Menards does not address the situation and could care less...passes the buck to Midwest Manufacturing. I will NEVER buy Mastercraft again. Spread the word to save others pocketbooks! See Pic of water pouring in from the interior side of the door! How in the heck does that happen?! 1 2 3 NEXT

They are not always the best choice, however, since they limit access to only half the closet at a time and have a tendency to come off the track at the most inopportune moment. Replacing them with easy to open bifold doors allows full access to the closet space. Here’s how it’s done: Remove the old doors.

Cut a board to cover the recessed track at the top and nail it in place. Measure the height and width of the opening. Purchase a set of doors to fit the opening. If the exact size isn’t available, buy the next larger size and plane or cut the doors to fit the opening. Install the track along the top of the doorway. Mark the location for the pivot points at the bottom of the door frame with a plumb bob. Align the floor brackets with the marks and attach them to the door frame. Insert the bottom pins in the floor brackets and the top pins in the track. Fine-tune the fit of the door by adjusting the pivot points at the top with a screwdriver. Paint or stain the doors. Drill holes for the knobs 36″ from the floor in the middle of the two center doors. Tips on How to Size a Rough Door Opening for a Bifold Door By Mark J. Donovan When installing a Bifold door into a wall it is important that the rough opening for the Bifold door be sized correctly. If the rough opening is not sized correctly the Bifold door will either not fit if it is too small, or have wide gaps if it is too large. Sizing a Bifold Door Rough Opening with a Door Jamb OpeningTypically the rough opening should be sized 2 inches wider and 2 inches higher than the door itself. For example a four-foot wide (48”) by six feet, eight inches high (80”) Bifold set of doors, would require a rough opening width of 50 inches and a height of 82 inches. This sized rough opening will allow for either a doorjamb kit to be installed or for ¾” thick select lumber to be used to create the finished doorjamb. Note that most bifold door assemblies do not come with a doorjamb kit so using ¾” thick select lumber to create the finished doorjamb is fairly common.

The bifold door mechanical bracket assemblies actually screw into this finished doorjamb so it is important that the doorjamb be installed plumb and level. To complete the interior trim work associated with the doorjamb, when using ¾” select lumber, case moulding is wrapped around the perimeter of it. For best results, mitered cuts are employed. Sizing a Bifold Door Rough Opening for a Sheetrocked Wrapped Opening If the Bifold door is to be installed into a sheetrocked wrapped opening the rough opening width should be sized to the actual width of the Bifold doors (48” in the case of this example). The rough opening height should be the height of the door plus 3/4″ (80 ¾” in the case of this example). Note that these guidelines are typical framing standards that are employed in the home construction business. You should always check with the manufacturer or product specifications to confirm the rough opening requirements for your particular bifold doors. ’s Home Addition Bid Sheets.
