Too be honest if you go into a showroom a salesman will give you a choice of ten or twenty, he will for sure recommend the mattress he gets the most commission on.
We have simplified our selection and provided a one mattress for each grade required. We will keep it simple and give you the following advice: Pheonix 15cm thick sprung budget mattress. This in an entry level mattress, at only 15cm thick do not expect too much out of the product. If the mattress is for occasional use, ie not every night then this may be OK. It has a 13.5 gauge spring unit with minimal padding. The heavier the person the more chance they will feel the springs. Advice: Spend a little more and go for the Belmont mattress Belmont 20cm thick sprung mattress. This mattress, being thicker then the budget is a marked improvement. Being 5cm thicker we can put more packing and padding in. This makes for a more comfortable mattress. This mattress is ideal for children and medium use for adults, dependant on weight. This mattress is also quilted for a more comfortable sleep. Memory Soft Memory Foam mattress This memory foam mattress has a core inner bonnel spring for stability.
The sleeping surface is 2inch memory foam with layers of visco. The memory foam layers allows this to be a softer, warmer mattress. ORTHOdeluxe 20cm sprung mattress. We have used a thicker 12.5 gauge spring, being thicker we have added more padding and packing. This gives a much firmer feel, whilst firm it still remains comfortable. Some mattresses are very firm, like laying on a plank of wood. This mattress will hold you in the correct sleeping position but will allow you to "sink in". As with the above ORTHOdeluxe, however we have made it thicker!! - More packing, more comfortable. (note this mattress is too thick for bunkbeds) Why are the beds not painted? We used to supply, like everyone else on the internet cheap imported beds. These came complete with a painted finish.The problem is that, just like a skirting board the paint chips and flakes off, making for an unsightly finish. We now manufacturer our products with that come with no finish, already sanded ready to go. Much like a skirting board you then have the choice to use it as it is, a very modern look or apply your own finish. I want to colour the bed, what do you recommend? Given what we have advised above we do not recommend painting a bed. The paint simply sits on the timber and will chip when knocked. Timber has been stained for centuries, the reason is that the stain sinks into the timber so cannot chip off. We recommend a WOOD DYE. This has the advantage of a varnish finish but dries to form resilient layer that will protect the timber.
Application is very easy, we recommend you build the product and place a sheet under for protection. You simply apply using the a lint free cloth. WOOD DYE comes in a number off coloured finished, clear, white, dark or light oak. You only need to purchase 250ml (depending on your requirements) to finish a whole bunk bed.
